Intellectual Property Lawyer

As the Intellectual Property Lawyer, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal leadership for the company. You are a proactive, solutions-focused legal professional with a deep understanding of the intricacies of intellectual property, brand management, and licensing. In this highly creative and commercial environment, you’ll work closely with the CEO and key leadership teams, ensuring legal strategies align with business goals while managing risk and regulatory compliance. You will act as a sole trusted advisor, offering insights into legal implications of business strategies, safeguarding the company’s IP assets, and navigating the complexities of licensing agreements.

As a collaborative leader, you’ll partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the company’s growth and innovation while ensuring all legal matters are handled with diligence and care. Your expertise will be critical in shaping the company’s legal framework as we continue to expand into new markets and business opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide expert legal advice and strategic counsel to the CEO and executive team on matters related to intellectual property (IP), brand management, and licensing.

• Oversee and manage the company’s IP portfolio, ensuring the protection, registration, and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights, and patents.

• Negotiate and draft complex licensing agreements, contracts, and partnerships with third parties, ensuring favorable terms while mitigating legal and financial risk.

• Lead the company’s legal strategy for global expansion, including managing compliance with international laws and regulations.

• Collaborate with business units to ensure that legal considerations are integrated into commercial decisions, providing risk assessments and legal solutions that support business objectives.

• Collaborate with internal teams on intellectual property matters for new initiatives.

• Advise on intellectual property strategy and prepare cease and desist letters when necessary.

• Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide legal policies and best practices that align with industry standards and legal regulations.

• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and advisors, ensuring high-quality service and cost-effective solutions for specific legal matters or disputes.

• Handle any litigation or dispute resolution processes, ensuring the company’s interests are protected and legal risks are minimized.

• Stay updated on legal trends, industry regulations, and relevant case law affecting the brand, IP, and licensing sectors.

• Act as the primary legal liaison between the company and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, licensors, and licensees.

• Lead training initiatives to educate employees and teams on legal risks, policies, and compliance requirements.

• Support corporate governance and compliance, ensuring all legal obligations are met at board and company levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 5 years of experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on brand management and related areas.

• Admission to the bar in Malaysia. 

• Proven track record of managing complex legal issues independently.

• Strong negotiation, drafting and analytical skills.

• Excellent organisation and project management skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
