The Core AI BI & Data Platforms Team has been established to create, operate and run the Enterprise AI, BI and Data that facilitate the time to market for reporting, analytics and data science teams to run experiments, train models and generate insights as well as evolve and run the CoCounsel application and its shared capability of CoCounsel AI Assistant.
The Enterprise Data Platform aims to provide self service capabilities for fast and secure ingestion and consumption of data across Thomson Reuters. The Data Platform team in Bangalore is seeking an experienced Senior DBA with a passion for engineering cloud-based data platform systems.
Join our dynamic team as a Senior Snowflake Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee and enhance the data infrastructure on our Enterprise Data Platform. In this role, you will leverage your Snowflake expertise to ensure the performance, scalability, and security of our data solutions. You will collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business teams to maintain data integrity, optimize storage and compute resources, and support our growing data-driven initiatives.

About the Role

In this opportunity as the Senior DBA, you will:       

  • Administer and optimize Snowflake databases on the Data Platform, ensuring high performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for Snowflake usage, including data partitioning, clustering, and storage optimization.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to design efficient ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and integrations to support data ingestion and transformation.
  • Manage and monitor data security, including role-based access controls (RBAC), data masking, and encryption to protect sensitive data and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop automation scripts in SQL / Python for monitoring, maintenance, and backup/recovery to ensure data availability and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, slow-running queries, and other Snowflake issues, implementing solutions to enhance query efficiency.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and deployments on the Data Platform by working closely with DevOps and Data Engineering teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide strategic insights for resource and cost optimization within the Snowflake environment, Analysing usage patterns and recommending changes as needed.

About You

You're a fit for the role of DBA, if you meet all or most of these criteria:

  • 5+ years of experience in Database Administration with a focus on cloud-based data warehousing and data platform support.
  • In-depth expertise in Snowflake architecture and management, including experience with virtual warehouses, partitioning, clustering, and query tuning.
  • Strong SQL skills for complex queries, data manipulation, and Snowflake optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python (or similar scripting languages) for automation and process orchestration.
  • Experience with data security best practices in Snowflake, including RBAC, encryption, and data masking techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and their integration with Snowflake.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and experience supporting automated deployment processes for data workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to managing and resolving platform issues.
