As a Purchasing Analyst at Caterpillar, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient coordination of schedules across manufacturing, operations, and support teams. This position is responsible for managing daily production and resource schedules, resolving conflicts, and maintaining alignment with business goals and operational capacity. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows, support planning initiatives, and ensure timely execution of tasks and projects.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in communication and time management. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and capable of adapting to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

What You Will Do:

  • Analyzing and troubleshooting planned production scheduling problems.

  • Reviewing and acting on order release, action, and follow up. Developing and maintaining bill of materials and associated data.

  • Ensuring timely delivery of component materials needed to support production requirements.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to incorporate customer and business requirements. Releasing work orders to the shop.

  • Manage RSSM (Request to Scrap Surplus Material), NextGen, issue PO, and assist with the resolution of inventory discrepancies.

What skills you will have:

Production Scheduling and Control:

  • Understand manufacturing processes and workflow.

  • Work with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

  • Apply knowledge of capacity planning, lead times, and inventory control.

  • Operate in production environments, preferably in roles like production planner or operations coordinator.

  • Analyze production data and adjust schedules to meet demand and minimize downtime.

Manufacturing Requirements Planning:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in MRP software tools and systems.

  • Manage supply chain, procurement, and inventory control.

  • Work with bill of materials (BOM) and routing.

  • Understand demand forecasting and material flow.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., purchasing, logistics, engineering).

Effective Communications:

  • Collaborate across functions, especially in fast-paced environments.

  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally through reports, presentations, or stakeholder engagement.

  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate effectively.

  • Tailor communication styles to different audiences (e.g., technical teams vs. executives).

  • Lead teams or engage with customers, which is a plus.

Problem Solving:

  • Identify and resolve operational issues hands-on.

  • Use structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, Six Sigma).

  • Analyze and interpret data to support decision-making.

  • Work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives or Kaizen events.

Additional Information:    

This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Goldsboro, NC office.

Domestic relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.

This position may require up to 5% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$28.15 - $42.25

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
