The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

As the Manager, Logistics you will provide and manage the receipt and distribution of direct material within the plant, shipment of miscellaneous and interplant materials, management of cribs, and implementation of cost-effective material handling plans.  The Manager, Logistics is responsible for developing and overseeing proper material flow utilizing CPS guidelines/principles.  This includes communicating with the Transportation group and carriers to optimize external material flow.

What You Will Do:

  • Optimizing transportation, providing onsite material logistics functions, managing 3PL’s, and driving improvements in point-of-use availability.
  • Distribution:  Production, indirect and miscellaneous material (including metallic scrap) is moved within the plant and surrounding areas by means of the intra-plant vehicles.  Maintains service for industrial vehicle repair, which is responsible for performing all repairs and preventative maintenance all vehicles plant wide.  Will manage indirect inventory levels and the daily operations in the major tools and supplies disbursement and tool grinding cribs.  All responsible for logistics services contracts including the daily operational activities of supporting deconsolidation centers, logistics service centers, and inbound logistics centers.  Responsible for the scheduling of supplier deliveries by common carrier and administration of returnable container programs.  Coordination of inbound material control, carrier collaboration, establishing milk runs, coordinating 3PL services, plant site material logistics, and managing supermarkets and kitting processes.  Responsible for optimizing material flow throughout the plant site, ensuring availability of needed resources, to include operating personnel and material handling equipment; always working to eliminate traffic bottlenecks.
  • Logistics Planning:  Provides management for the development and implementation of cost-effective material handling plans, including purchased logistics services, and material handling equipment.  This involves providing tactical plans, machines and equipment, and facilities to support long range process improvement plans and daily operations.  Responsible for multiple shift operations and sets general policy including schedules to be followed on all three (3) shifts, servicing production area needs in off shift hours.  Supervises daily activities of staff by coaching, delegating, monitoring progress, and providing direction and technical support.  Plans for future material handling needs, equipment, and manpower requirements and prepares operating budget for assigned areas.  Works closely with Purchasing, Requirements, Manufacturing, factory Engineering, Traffic, suppliers, and other areas to ensure customer needs are met utilizing least total cost alternatives.  Challenge is to implement cost-effective projects within acceptable parameters for schedule, budget, cost reduction and return o investment while providing uninterrupted, quality service to customers.
  • Manages a work unit of management, salaried, and hourly employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required.
  • Responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Project Management:  Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
    • Utilizes preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time.
    • Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects.
    • Identifies risks and vulnerabilities; creates contingency plans.
    • Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients.
    • Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.
    • Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.
  • Warehouse Management:  Knowledge of the policies, processes and systems of warehouse management; ability to effectively manage one or more warehouses or distribution centers.
    • Maintains warehouse equipment and facilities.
    • Performs basic warehousing activities such as receiving, putting away, picking, packing and shipping merchandise.
    • Analyzes and documents key performance indicators of warehouse management in own area.
    • Assists in implementing mechanization approaches and techniques in a distribution center.
    • Collects and translates the business requirements for specifications of warehouse management systems.
  • Distribution Center Management:  Knowledge of distribution processes, issues and considerations; ability to effectively manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of inventory to stores and/or customers.
    • Participates in distribution network analysis and network modeling activities.
    • Manages all aspects of one or more distribution centers.
    • Continues to mechanize distribution center activities.
    • Explains and walks through a complete distribution center network; participates in design.
    • Assesses alternative distribution designs and considerations for demand and source locations.
    • Implements tools for sharing inventory and distribution information with other computer systems.
  • Inventory Management:  Knowledge of processes and methods of inventory management; ability to effectively manage organization's materials, commodities, merchandises, or products.
    • Coordinates daily work of inventory management for different locations within a facility or a supply network.
    • Devises standard inventory management benchmarks to improve the processes.
    • Ensures that the inventory is at an appropriate level and meets both internal and external requirements.
    • Provides guidance on inventory management for a specific product group or location.
    • Applies systems and processes to identify and coordinate inventory requirements; resolves conflicts.
    • Reviews reports used for inventory management to find out related problems.
  • Logistics Management:  Knowledge of the processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials; ability to understand, predict and control the movement of goods, materials and supplies.
    • Develops and analyzes logistics plans that affect production, distribution, and inventory.
    • Manages logistics processes through process improvement, prioritization, and project planning.
    • Implements and maintains monitoring systems to provide information on shipment status, shipped date, in transit location, estimated arrival date, and actual delivery date.
    • Works with historical, legislative and practical issues associated with domestic freight.
    • Participates in contract negotiations and interfaces with selected carriers necessary to maintain expected levels of service.
    • Consults on all major logistics processes, their interactions and operational requirements.
  • Supply Chain Management:  Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and implement strategies, practices and tools for controlling the whole processes.
    • Recognizes software systems or components used to manage supply chain.
    • Participates in supply chain analysis and uses it to spot trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Discusses considerations for integrating partner and supplier transactions.
    • Summarizes supply chain considerations for different types of products.
    • Works with a specific part of supply chain management process.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.
  • Previous Project Management experience.
  • Previous Lean Operations/Continuous Improvement experience.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
