Do you want to spend your term in a fast-paced Legal Department Operations team, focusing on both software project and department operational tasks inside the largest investment house in the province located in beautiful British Columbia? The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Legal Operations co-op student/intern for the Winter, Summer or Fall work terms (January to April, May to August, or September to December 2025) to work with our Legal Affairs (LA) Department Operations team.

The Legal Operations co-op/intern will work within our LA department in the Department Operations team. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to support this team as they navigate everything from strategic planning to day-to-day execution of projects and business-as-usual activities for the LA department.
You will work with the Department Operations team in BCI’s LA Department. Department Operations is a function formed in 2022 that provides technology enablement and adoption, financial planning, reporting and department analytics, outside provider management, and strategic planning services to the LA department.
Specific focus on business analysis activities, including
Engaging with business areas to understand and document their needs
Collection, organization, and analysis of problems to support solution recommendations
Support of users during design activities
Support of users during project implementation
Support of project closeout tasks including transition to operations and lessons learned
Support the development of operational deliverables such as Standard Operating Procedures
Day to day support and management of the team’s task board in JIRA
Assist with recording and distribution of meeting minutes and other project communications
Ad hoc data analysis tasks
Required Skills

Has an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, and a commitment to the highest ethical standards
Has strong research skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities
Can use Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
Possesses a strong work ethic, initiative, perseverance, and grit to get the job done
Can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Is professional and has excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrates an eagerness to learn coupled with the ability to fail and recover
Has strong technology skills including the ability to effectively use Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
Has familiarity with JIRA
Has previous work experience in a business or corporate setting (not necessarily in a legal capacity)
Has familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools such as One Drive, SharePoint Online, and MS Teams would be an asset
Excellent career development and training in business analysis within a strategic department operations function with high visibility across the entire department

Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office. We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to one day per week. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
