Summary of Job Duties:

The Accountant's primary purpose is to manage UAMS accounting with regard to reviewing expenses, creation of schedules, maintaining accounting records, journal entries on a monthly basis, periodic reports, and respond to inquiries from the departments.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or related

  • Two (2) years of accounting experience

  • Advance skills level in Excel

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to auditors and campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting degree

  • Experience with Workday systems

Additional Information:

  • Responsible for the recording and accounting of all assets, both tangible and intangible, acquired or disposed of by UAMS as well as the recording and accounting for the depreciation of those assets. 
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of asset and depreciation records for each fixed asset category to the detail of each individual asset with respect to detail, accuracy and completeness. 
  • Generate quarterly reconciliations. 
  • Record depreciation: Run depreciation processes monthly. 
  • Evaluate purchase orders over $5,000 for possible assets. 
  • Prepares and post monthly and year-end journal entries. 
  • Manually post value to assets purchased on grants. 
  • Make correcting entries to system generated assets to add or remove allowable expenses.
  • Manually allocate depreciation for various departments.
  • Produce reports for auditors and outside entities. 
  • Pull backup documentation for assets as needed. 
  • Run departmental reports as needed. 
  • Obtain check copies campus wide. 
  • Consult for departments on asset and depreciation expenses.
  • Prepare draw and reimbursement requests for various major projects. 
  • Maintain record of requests and reimbursements. 
  • Communicate with financial institutions regarding pending requests.
  • Review and approve capital requisitions for proper general ledger categorization and fund availability. Consult departments on accurate categorization. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
