Reporting to the Head of Fleet & Procurement, the National Transport Compliance & Assurance Manager is accountable for the design, implementation and ongoing effectiveness of transport compliance controls across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
National Transport Compliance Ownership
Own the national transport compliance framework covering HVNL, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, mass and load restraint, vehicle standards and state-based regulatory requirements.
Compliance Control Effectiveness
Ensure transport compliance controls are practical, embedded and operating as intended through routine verification, data analysis and engagement with operational teams.
Incident, Breach & Risk Management
Lead the management of transport-related incidents, breaches and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
Process Standardisation & Documentation
Develop and standardise transport compliance procedures, work instructions and supporting tools to ensure consistent national application and ease of frontline use.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Establish and maintain transport compliance and performance metrics, providing clear visibility of trends, risks and improvement opportunities to the Head of Fleet & Procurement and executive stakeholders.
Stakeholder & Regulator Engagement
Partner closely with Fleet, Operations, Safety, HR and external providers, and support regulator interactions where required, ensuring a consistent and credible compliance posture.
What We’re Looking For
You are a transport compliance specialist with a strong understanding of regulatory obligations, operational risk and control effectiveness in heavy vehicle and crane transport environments. You are pragmatic, detail-driven and confident influencing operational leaders.
Ideally, you will have:
5+ years’ experience in transport compliance, Chain of Responsibility or heavy vehicle operations (essential).
Strong working knowledge of HVNL, Chain of Responsibility and state-based transport legislation (essential).
Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance controls are operating effectively in live operational environments (essential).
Experience in asset-intensive, safety-critical industries such as cranes, heavy transport, Mining, Oil & Gas, Renewables or Infrastructure (highly desirable).
Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis capability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate autonomously across a nationally dispersed organisation.
Relevant qualifications in transport, compliance or WHS (desirable).
