We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Securities Financing Trader to join our growing Capital Markets and Credit Investment team in London, United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new and growing team at one of Canada’s largest asset managers. This is a unique opportunity to architect and implement a best-in-class securities finance operation!
Based in London, United Kingdom and reporting into the Senior Managing Director (SMD), DTI in London, the Senior Securities Financing Trader (SSFT) sits inside the Derivatives, Trading and Index portfolio management team. The SSFT is responsible for the maximization of revenue of wholly owned assets using derivatives and alternative securities financing channels. The role requires extensive linear derivatives delta one trading and securities financing experience. In addition, travel and working nonstandard in office hours flexibility is mandatory. This role consists of rigorous screening of securities lending data, swap markets, local jurisdiction laws and derivative data analysis of single stock companies to identify high quality candidates for financing. In addition, the SSFT executes all trades and monitors the life cycle of trades, recalls, re-rates and movements from alternative execution strategies end to end.
The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI's global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience creating similar capabilities at institutional investors or on the sell-side, with deep expertise in securities lending, derivatives trading, and collateral management. This is a unique opportunity to architect and implement a best-in-class securities finance operation
Proven track record building a securities finance platform or desk from scratch, ideally for an institutional investor, pension fund, or on the sell-side
Experience in building a scalable platform designed for long-term growth and sustainability.
Minimum of 5 years linear global delta one linear derivative trading experience in multi currencies as a head decision maker and group profit owner
Strong track record of spread revenue maximization of using alternative spot and term funding channels (cross currency, physical replication and synthetic trading)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to originate and structure solutions with keen attention to detail
Expert in financing cross asset both securities financing transactions (SFTs) and total return swaps (TRS) from both the buyside and sell side perspective
Develop and maintain relationships with borrowers and lenders to optimize securities financing performance
Strong legal understanding of securities lending agency agreements, regulatory frameworks, indemnification and collateral schedules
Professional presentation, communication and writing skills
Diplomatic, tactful and strong interpersonal skills
Eager, strong work ethic, and desire to learn
Passion for the Financial markets
Ability to work flexible hours to match North America, Asia and European time zones
Ability to translate and articulate securities finance market thoughts and ideas to a larger audience including colleagues, senior management, and clients
Under the supervision of the SMD, DTI, the SSFT identifies, analyzes, values and recommends trade opportunities using DTI’s robust decision-making framework
Accountable for ensuring that investment policies and guidelines and portfolio risk parameters are followed
Performs in-depth analysis and builds and maintains pricing models and database
Responsible for annual revenue targets and day-to-day zero errors
Responds to corporate actions, daily cash management and reconciliation of equity and financing resets, etc.
Liaises with the Victoria trading desk on appropriate execution strategies and trading opportunities
Monitors, analyzes and provides attribution analysis on portfolio performance to the SMD, DTI
Performs other duties as directed by the Head of Trading
