Printpack is looking for an Industrial Engineer II in Atlanta, GA who applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. A successful Industrial Engineer II will make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represent the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.

This position requires advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of sciences and various engineering disciplines.

Key Functions

  • Performs work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are established precedents.
  • Assignments usually include one or more of the following: Equipment design and development, vendor evaluation, testing of systems, preparation of specifications, process studies, research investigations, report preparations, and other activities requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments.
  • Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of the principles and practices of related specialties.
  • In a lead capacity, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs large and important engineering projects or a number of small projects with many complex features.
  • As an individual researcher or worker, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or methods.
  • As a staff specialist, develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others, assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations, products, or equipment, when necessary, data is insufficient, or confirmation by testing is advisable.

Qualifications

Education:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, plus appropriate continuing education. Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.

Experience:  

  • Four years of applicable engineering experience is required; 10 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Possesses a working knowledge of principles of industrial engineering including design of experiments, engineering statistics, engineering economics, layouts of equipment, and workflow planning.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of general Industrial Engineering techniques such as time study and root cause analysis, and Pareto Analysis and can use this knowledge to analyze data and evaluate processes and issues.
  • Can conduct in depth Productivity Constraints and Root Cause analyses and make viable recommendations involving support equipment, operating processes, systems design, material handling, and facilities design using both proven and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Data collection, analysis to identify and correct deficiencies, modeling of work and material flow in a facility.
  • Ability to learn manufacturing technologies specific to the industry and the ability to use that understanding to make effective analyses and recommendations on equipment and process improvements.
  • Possesses the ability to perform minor revisions and update layouts using Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD) such as equipment placement manipulation, text changes, and schematics of layout options.
  • Has general knowledge of other engineering disciplines, including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, and can coordinate the efforts of others on minor projects.
  • Provides leadership on innovation and new technology.
  • Possesses the insight and interpersonal skills to mitigate conflicts involving associates within the company or associates within the company and outside the company.
  • Able to manage several projects at the same time, with minimal assistance of Supervision.
  • Can promote and sell engineering services to internal customers.
  • Interacts with plant associates at multiple levels at each stage of the project to gather data, understand operations methods, get design input, get buy-in for solutions, and get help to optimize the systems.

Physical Demands:

  • The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to use of Personal Protective Equipment, ladders, noise above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lb., solvent fumes, and inks.

Travel Requirements: 

  • Travel is required to various facilities to support projects 30-40% per year. Some international travel is required. Some weekend travel may be required.
