As Associate Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support to the plant safety professional and plant staff on facility safety initiatives when designing and/or redesigning work processes to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses. 
  • Working closely with JHSC when conducting Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews.
  • Implementation of capital permits, projects, and engineering studies as assigned to support plant goals.  Executes projects in compliance with company ethics, safety, and engineering standards. 
  • Ensuring that proper documentation and drawings are produced and maintained, including provision of the appropriate documentation to production, systems, and maintenance departments.
  • Preparation and submission of capital project budgets with appropriate back up data as required, and development of permits as required.
  • Providing technical support to maintenance and operations groups including process studies, troubleshooting, process optimization, and maintenance of historical data to identify, monitor and control key operating parameters.
  • Identifying, developing and initiating capital projects with an implementation date of one to two years in duration. Supervision of projects with significant monetary value, directing project contractors and consultants as necessary.  Conducting process training and ensures documentation is up to date when projects are completed.
  • Keeping current in engineering discipline, assessing new technologies and ideas, developing, evaluating, and seeking approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process.
  • Identifying training needs and opportunities, assisting in the development and delivery of training programs for process operators and maintenance personnel as required. Understanding and integrating business and technical needs into all activities.
  • Developing and validating training and Standard Operating Procedural documentation, establishing technical competency requirements, etc.
  • Leading or participating in corrective action teams as appropriate to continuously drive improvement initiatives, reducing cost and increasing efficiency.
  • Working co-operatively with Operations and Maintenance to provide both engineering and trouble-shooting support, as well as to effectively co-ordinate capital work affecting the process.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • B.Sc. degree in a process related engineering discipline (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent in experience and education. Future attainment of P.E.O. certification desired.
  • Ideally some experience in a related industry including involvement with project management, process improvement and troubleshooting, project development and/or implementation. Should have experience involving process automation, preferably with formal training or basic knowledge of computer/PLC operations.
  • Good general knowledge and skill using SAP and Microsoft Office.  Functional experience working with Invensys (Foxboro) hardware and software is an asset.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and people management skills – In addition to providing relief coverage for the Operations Leads, the Associate Engineer must be able to demonstrate the ability to influence without authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity.
