Job Description:

The role is responsible for the overall effective running and coordination of all activities for the IFRS 17 results optimization.

The key responsibilities if this role would be 1) to analyze Sun Life results to peers to understand the key differences and explain them. Then to move on and identify and execute key projects to optimize the policies or business strategies to optimize the IFRS 17 results; 2) support key Business Optimization initiatives in Asia, supporting the Chief Actuary, Asia as needed.

The role will focus on the following core implication areas: Financials, Capital and Risk. In addition, the responsibility is to understand all other implication areas (i.e. Products, Investment and ALM) and understand cross implications and work to solve common issues / optimise multiple areas. This role will also lead the prioritization of resources working with the Regional Office and Business Unit leaders.

The incumbent will make policy/operational recommendations as appropriate in support of IFRS17 optimization. The team will perform analytical work as necessary to support assessments on IFRS17 optimization.

  • Understand the key implications across all areas with a deep focus on the financial results, capital position as well as risk implications. Work with the team to develop solutions to optimize the business outcomes through application of Accounting Policies or consider business strategy changes
  • Work closely with the Business Units to ensure that work plans are clear and lead the prioritization of this work (seeking input from manager as needed) whilst working in an agile team environment.
  • Actively support the BU Business Optimization Leads in understanding their critical implication areas and ensure credible plans in place to address these in line with Asia BG priorities.  

Preferred skills (heading)

  • In-depth knowledge of the application of IFRS 17
  • Knowledge of insurance industry, products and related accounting issues
  • Intellectual agility and strong analytical, innovation and problem solving skills
  • Management of activities with multiple dimensions and stakeholders
  • Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating deadlines and multiple professional perspectives
  • Ability to influence decisions without formal authority

Qualifications (heading)

  • Qualified Actuary or deep experience in a financial reporting, accounting or financial strategy role.
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to, and collaborate effectively with, a wide-range of audiences
  • Strong people and process leadership and management skills to mobilize key internal and external resources necessary to ensure the successful completion of key tasks, initiatives and projects
  • Aptitude for identifying, analyzing and resolving complex problems; strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage and influence and deal with finance leadership, external advisors, counterparties, as well as professionals in other functional areas
  • Strong finance knowledge and analytical skills
