Role Summary  

This is a senior engineer position within the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACOE) department of the Research & Development Solutions org (R&DSIT).  

  

This SRE is responsible for the design and implementation of a hybrid cloud strategy including both public cloud (AWS) and on-premises deployments to support distributed software systems that serve an array of scenarios related to clinical trials and other lines of IQVIA’s pharma/tech business.  

  

This is a highly collaborative role working in partnership with peer SREs, IT groups and software engineering teams to stand-up environments, deploy applications, establish metrics, and achieve infrastructure performance and stability targets. 

  

The ideal candidate is more than an infrastructure specialist but also an experienced software engineer and able to participate in design, development, and leadership activities. 

  

Typical Activities  

  • Consultation and collaboration with software development teams 

  • Actively participate in Agile practices 

  • Assist with infosec assessments 

  • Work with cloud infrastructure providers 

  • Configure deployment automation frameworks 

  • Establish best practices for consistency among software development teams 

  • Continuous improvement, take proactive steps to improve product quality and process efficiency 

  • Research current and emerging industry tools and techniques and share these findings with colleagues 

  • Consistently deliver robust, high-quality, reliable engineering outcomes in cross functional autonomous scrum teams  

  • Drive curiosity and innovation  

  • Develop automated CI/CD pipelines that deploy to both on-premises clusters and to the cloud  

  • Design and lead engineering efforts going towards building business applications  

  • Collaborate with engineers and leaders from other organizations inside IQVIA  

  • Support the product owner by understanding business requirements and helping the team break these into stories   

  • Lead cross-team exercises, including DevOps incident management bridges  

  • Lead documentation efforts for product architecture and security compliance  

  • Lead security assessments and product readiness evaluation  

  • Perform code reviews for work submitted by other engineers  

  • Mentor interns, apprentices, and other engineers 

Basic Qualifications  

Prospective candidates who meet most of these qualifications are encouraged to applyA well-qualified candidate will meet these qualifications.  

  • Software design and development experience 

  • Linux experience with the ability to configure environments through the use of software tools 

  • Experience using Docker to build, test and deploy containers 

  • Kubernetes – ability to deploy applications 

  • Automated provisioning (Terraform, Ansible, etc.) 

  • Experience with CI/CD tools to build test and deploy 

  • Experience with core AWS services, uses and basic AWS architecture best practices 

  • Experience using GitHub (or similar VCS) for committing, branching, and merging 

  • Solid understanding of microservices and restful services 

  • Solid understanding of relational database management systems 

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 

  • 5+ years of relevant collaborative software engineering experience  

  • 2+ years full time engineering roles in at least two companies  

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals  

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of product development lifecycle  

  • Experience deploying code into production through CI/CD tools (not just “CI/CD Pipeline”) 

  • Prior experience leading engineering projects or teams  

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of product development lifecycle  

  • Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in peer mentorship  

  

Additional Qualifications  

These additional qualifications are not required. However, having any of the qualifications listed below will strengthen a candidate’s application.  

  • Security experience (K8s, AWS, Azure) 

  • Monitoring (Datadog) 

  • Establishing and monitoring SLO’s, SLI’s and SLA’s (Datadog) 

  • Experience building RESTful APIs  

  • Prior management training (useful while this is not a management role)

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $129,000.00 - $215,000.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
