Role Summary                                                          

An Associate Chemist is an entry level role into formulated products.  This professional utilizes their technical expertise and performs experimentation in the formulation, development and testing of current and new personal care products including toothpastes, mouthwash, oral analgesics, nasal sprays and wound wash products. This individual may also lead small programs under close supervision from senior group members.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities  

  • Conduct bench-top formulation and development of personal care products.
  • Execute laboratory experiments.  Conduct formula evaluation and stability testing.  Collect and analyze data.  Report results and suggest next steps. Manage databases released to product categories.
  • Prepare and maintain product and raw material specifications and basic experimental procedures.
  • Coordinate and support testing by internal service groups and/or external testing labs.
  • Conduct periodic competitive product charts and stay abreast on category trends.
  • Collect and help analyze consumer feedback, understand consumer needs and the gaps between needs and existing products, prepare summary report and initiate/conduct follow-through tasks.
  • Prepare and assemble bundle books, Project Summary Sheets, SDS submissions and other relevant documentation to support launch of new product.    Lead product release meetings as needed.

Education and Experience                                                          

The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines, with 0-2 years of laboratory experience.  An internship or Co-Op experience is preferred but not required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work independently with direction from supervisor.
  • Ability to work on multiple, concurrent projects with manager supervision. 
  • Demonstrated organizational, work planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with supervisor direction in a cross-functional environment involving marketing, processing, packaging, analytical, safety and clinical regulatory, etc.
  • Good oral and written skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
