Job Purpose

The Director of Business Continuity (BC) will lead Jackson's enterprise-wide business continuity and crisis management efforts, working collaboratively across the organization to define business continuity and document business impacts and recovery strategies. The focus of the Director will be both strategic, designing required programs and practices, as well as tactical, working on implementation. The Director will be responsible to drive and deliver Business Continuity and Crisis Management commitment, support, ownership, accountability, and results. The Director will coordinate with Corporate Security, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Technology, and Information Security throughout the planning process.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Leads a coordinated business continuity program in alignment with continuity best practices and standards with a continuous improvement mindset. Establishes a framework and methodology for completion of continuity plans and continuous cycle of update, validation, and corrective action.

  • Establishes and documents a complete Crisis Management program that ensures that response and recovery actions are in place at all Jackson locations and teams are trained and prepared to respond to an incident.

  • Identifies key components that serves as the basis for continuity plans, crisis management plans and programs. Implements and maintains the necessary components to ensure the program standards are achieved.

  • Collaborates with key functional areas to ensure consensus on critical functions and how they will be supported during a disruption. Assesses gaps and coordinates with the appropriate parties on contingency plans.

  • Drives and delivers effective Business Continuity strategies to support and, in time of disaster, recover critical business functions. Ensures coordination occurs with the business units to document appropriate recovery strategies.

  • Establishes a coordinated program for training, communication, testing and exercising of plans, including both business continuity and crisis management. Ensures employee knowledge and confidence in execution of the response and recovery strategies.

  • Directs the continuous and regular validation and testing of documented Business Continuity plans and Crisis Management Plans; creates scenarios to re-establish operations from distinct types of business disruptions.

  • Conducts significant internal and external coordination with key partners, across business units, and with key external partners ensuring plans are updated and available to management teams in the event of a disruption.

  • Leads action review discussions after incidents occur and identifies and implements opportunities for program improvement.

  • Ensures effective use of continuity software programs, administration of data and support.

  • Provides leadership and management oversight to a team of individuals supporting BCM. Effectively recruits, trains, and conducts succession planning within the team.

Other Duties

  • Responsible for departmental budget and forecasting.

  • Maintains effective relationships with key third party vendors used by Business Continuity.

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of business continuity planning, information technology, business interruption and business operations best practices, principles, and strategies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Business Continuity processes, organizational risks, and controls. Experience developing and maintaining business continuity plans, conducting business impact analyses, and organizing and overseeing business continuity exercises.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to articulate complex concepts in a compelling manner with varied audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external client relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to manage a program and ensure it adheres to corporate policy and all applicable regulatory requirements, along with the ability to identify potential impacts of business risk and manage those risks effectively.

  • Ability to work with senior management seeking buy-in for changes in procedures and recommendations to enhance the BC program.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to drive and develop projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs with the ability to create reporting, presentations and identify opportunities to use these systems to support system administration.

  • Proven leadership skills with ability and desire to mentor, coach, and develop staff.

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify key issues and drivers, make balanced recommendations using sound judgement and execute solutions.

  • Demonstrated understanding of company Business Continuity objectives, technology, and operations.

  • Detail-oriented, with strong organization and multi-tasking skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required.

  • 8+ years of professional experience required, with focus in business continuity, finance, insurance or another relevant field preferred.

  • Management experience required.

  • Proven Project Management experience required with the ability to lead projects to completion preferred.
