Business Development Manager, Chicago

As an early member of the team, you will be creating and maintaining mutually beneficial and collaborative relationships with our broker partners. You will also help to drive a variety of strategic initiatives that will unlock new opportunities for revenue and profitability. We are looking for an experienced sales professional to help us to enhance broker relationships and empower the success of our partners by matching Counterpart’s value proposition,, and capabilities with a broker’s business goals.This will require close collaboration with our risk engineering teams, partners, clients, and other key stakeholders in order to scale the company. 

YOU WILL

  • Drive submission flow with management liability and professional liability brokers by helping to solve their needs and delivering value during routine in-person meetings and remote check-ins.
  • Onboard new broker teams engaging with them on how to access the teams and expertly explain all of the tools available to them.
  • Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting process with key stakeholders, fine-tuning our strategy to meet and exceed these objectives.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our processes, products and people continuously adapt to changing market conditions and business needs.
  • Champion the use of technology and data analytics to streamline knowledge sharing, improve customer engagement, and enhance overall sales productivity.
  • Execute marketing plans to increase market share with preferred brokers (new business and renewal business).
  • Build and/or maintain an external profile in the industry through networking & trade events.
  • Ensure that every touchpoint with our brokers is representative of our brand, mission, and vision.

YOU HAVE

  • 3-6 years of experience selling commercial and/or professional liability insurance with established broker/agency connections.
  • An established professional network predicated on strong relationships with key decision-makers within insurance brokerages
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills, including the ability to work with a diverse team while driving change across functional and business boundaries.
  • A proven track record of driving results, self-motivated, proactive and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment & accepting responsibility
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Confident presenting to key internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Experience working in marketing, sales, and / or operations in highly dynamic business environments.

  • Mike Levins, Head of Insurance: Mike previously was the Head of Broker Relations and US MGA Operations at Hiscox. Mike oversaw the Midwest region with ~20 underwriters offering 13 different product lines, the primary lines being management liability, professional liability, and cyber/technology. His extensive insurance career has afforded Mike strong relationships across hundreds of retail and wholesale brokers. Mike received his BS from Marquette University and MBA from Benedictine University.
  • Satwik Mysore, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: After graduating with an actuarial science degree, Satwik has spent most of his career at Travelers, where he built one of the largest and most profitable management liability books by forming strong broker relationships.
  • Brad Bahler, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: Brad has over a decade of experience in management liability underwriting. He managed one of the largest books of small business management liability risks at Travelers, where he was known for his deep understanding of coverage, outstanding submission response times, and boundless enthusiasm for the space.
  • Jake O'Donnell, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: Jake started his insurance career at Chubb, where he was able to develop and grow a profitable book of private-for-profit and non-profit management liability business. Jake is known for his exceptional service to industry brokers and his extensive knowledge of management liability. Jake also is a CPCU designation recipient.
