Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Painter 1, Facilities Management [R0145013]

ROLE of the POSITION

 Painter 1 performs skilled painting work to maintain and repair the surfaces of buildings, structures, fixtures, furniture and equipment. Incumbent responds to repair orders; establishes priority of repairs; estimates cost of jobs; acquires materials to complete a job; documents time and material costs for billing purposes, implements a preventive maintenance schedule and performs preventive maintenance such as conducting routine inspections and making minor repairs to prolong life of furniture, fixtures and structures, and maintains a satisfactory appearance. 

Other job duties for a Painter 1 include: 

  • The ability to finish interior or exterior surfaces

  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls

  • Review blueprints

  • Select and order appropriate materials

  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, patching holes, sanding, removing corrosion and etching metal surfaces

  • Apply paints, sealers and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheet rock, concrete, and wood

  • Tape and texture sheetrock

  • Repair and texture plaster 

  • Visually match paint colors

  • Apply paint with brush, rollers or spray gun or apply wall coverings 

  • Finish or refinish furniture

  • Remove old stain and finish by stripping, sanding, and bleaching

  • Fill the grain, apply stain, seal and varnish or lacquer the furniture, simulate wood grain or marble effects

  • Possess basic customer service skills and basic computer skills 

  • Perform related duties as assigned by Painter 2 and Painter 3

A valid class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and all certifications and licenses must be kept current as a condition of continued employment. As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive asbestos abatement certification within 1 year of hire date. 

The schedule is M-Thursday 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, subject to change depending on University and Department needs.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and all certifications and licenses must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.

SALARY 

Grade 30 Step 1, salary $53,724.24 . "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
