Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manger Manufacturing Systems Engineer 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Innovation organization. This leadership role is located in Palmdale, CA.

The Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineer 3 will have the responsibility of defining, developing, implementing, and transitioning new technology solutions to manufacturing to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality, which will include the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing concept and process solutions for production applications cover advanced technologies including but not limited to composites fabrication, assembly, automation, inspection, direct part manufacturing, LO technologies, as well as digital capabilities. 
  • The role requires incorporation of requirements into development plans and evaluation of performance of processes and tools to verify their efficiency. 
  • In addition, you will identify and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure R&D contractual obligations (technical, schedule, and cost) are met and product quality is maintained. 
  • In this role, you will provide guidance regarding design concepts, TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques, and ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management. 
  • In addition, the role will require the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment. 
  • Budgeting and Project Management skills will be utilized to properly scope and execute assigned work and manage project efforts.
  • Conducting performance assessments, staffing, employee development, communication meetings, compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/ approval and other routine personnel issues
  • Assessing, prioritizing and adjusting staffing to current and projected program needs
  • Facilitating engineering support, review and approval of Bid & Proposal (B&P) requests
  • Supporting program gate reviews as the engineering review authority, and assist in resolution of program engineering challenges (technical, financial, and staffing)
  • Coordinating across programs and functions for common efficiencies and operational gains
  • Making decisions that impact the organization, operations, and services
  • Comprehending and analyzing complex problems and developing solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree (STEM) AND 10 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production OR a master's degree (STEM) AND 8 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production.
  • Must have 2-3 years of prior management experience.
  • Must have 7 years of engineering experience
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required) as well as the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special Access

    • Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5 years

    • Experience with using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project, Visio)
    • Experience in Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
    • Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of increasing production schedules and high delivery rates
    • Project / Program Management skills (proposal creation, scheduling, budget tracking)
    • Strong Familiarity with Process Development & Controls  
    • Ability to lead through, overcome and adapt to obstacles and challenges. 
    • Ability to deal effectively with change and challenges and helps others to do the same. 
  • Technical
    • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information
    • Well-versed, skilled, and disciplined in system engineering processes
    • 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience
    • Experience in generating requirements, specifically, the ability to turn vague customer needs or stakeholder inputs into requirements. 
    • Siemens NX, TcE, CPLM, SAP, and Manufacturing Execution Systems
    • Experience with production assembly/fabrication and/or production manufacturing operations
    • Technical Writing capability
    • Experience in hardware/software integration of manufacturing systems 
      Architecture, Design & Integration experience for engineering systems and software 
    • Experience with production assembly/fabrication including Digital Transformation, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Systems Integration, IIoT, RFID, and/or production manufacturing operations. 
    • Experience with advanced networking capabilities
    • Knowledge of Cryptology
    • Working knowledge of classified information systems infrastructure 
    • Experience working in a Research and Development environment. 
    • Ability to use Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and concepts to define functions and develop functional and performance requirements. 
  • Other
    • Experience as Principal Investigator on government CRAD and/or Internal Research and Development programs. 
    • Experience working with IPTs, other stakeholders, and various customers such as Air Force and Navy 
    • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information. 
    • Ability to travel 50% of the time. 

Salary Range: $180,600.00 - $271,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
