Job Summary
Develops and directs the strategic planning of multiple projects. Oversees coordination of personnel and resources required to successfully complete projects. Aligns resource plans with business objectives and drives the execution of multiple work streams by identifying customer and operational needs. Translates business strategy into actionable requirements and provides guidance to management as needed.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
- Directs multiple medium- to large-scale programs from planning to completion by facilitating meetings with program stakeholders. Translates general objectives into tactical plans. Manages program financials and provides input and justification for costs and budget impact. Monitors overall program performance and makes adjustments as needed. Oversees the request for information and request for proposal processes.
- Leads the work of program teams and ensures team skills and strengths align with program needs. Communicates a clear vision of program goals and objectives. Coordinates team activities to ensure program milestones are achieved. Provides performance feedback where appropriate.
- Oversees program execution. Uses data-driven methods to quantify program benefits and inform approval decisions. Partners with Program and Project Managers and functional subject matter experts to identify program interrelationships that impact prioritization and resource allocation decisions.
- Manages and mitigates risks across multiple programs by analyzing and identifying trigger events. Establishes contingency plans and anticipates and manages dependencies affected by ongoing changes across programs. Recommends ways to mitigate future risks and influences senior leadership to take action on these recommendations.
- Builds and maintains executive sponsorship and support of assigned programs by working closely with sponsors to determine program goals and priorities. Oversees the distribution of program information to senior leadership and other key personnel. Ensures progress reports are distributed on a consistent basis.
- Ensures adherence to enterprise program management practices by coordinating formal and information training sessions. Makes sure key metrics are tracked and reported. Communicates best practices and feedback to teams, governance committees, senior leadership, and the larger project management community.
Nature and Scope
- Problems are typically defined by higher level leadership. Problems are difficult. Solutions require analysis and investigation.
- Decides how to achieve planned results within an organization's plans, policies, and guidelines. May set or change plans/goals within respective department or area.
- May manage department via multiple layers of managers OR directly supervise a staff of professional individual contributors at the senior or technical advisor level.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.
Education and Experience
- Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
