Position Summary

This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic merchandising and market management for specific commodities and product categories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commodity Positioning – Determine supply and demand, survey market conditions, evaluate arbitrage and hedge opportunities and analyze other economic forces in domestic and foreign markets to develop a market point of view (POV).  Establish a position in the marketplace based upon POV.

  • Commodity Purchasing - Initiate, negotiate, and agree on terms of commodity/product purchase/sales contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing, and payment. Ensure supply and procurement of assigned commodities within approved grades/commodity types.

  • Sales Management - Review and analyze progress towards the achievement of sales forecasts, initiating action as needed, to ensure accurate sales forecasts and expected results are achieved.

  • Marketing Management - Develop, implement, and manage the implementation of the Retail Farm Center marketing strategies, in conjunction with the Merchandising Managers and Location Managers to ensure proper forecasting, risk management, and maintenance of stock levels.

  • Customer Management – Ensure the organization of the customer base and the effective implementation of customer programs.

  • Supplier Management -Develop and maintain relationships with key/strategic suppliers. Assist Location Managers with any issues related to transportation, pricing, or quality.  

  • Risk/Regulatory Management – Establishes and ensures buy/sell processes and techniques meet internal company policy and procedures and comply with applicable laws and regulations. Manages commodity positions within approved risk parameters.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred

  • 7-10 years’ relevant experience required

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software 

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
