Purchasing Manager

We are looking for a Purchasing Manager to join our Shelby team!

As our Purchasing Manager you will play a critical role in strategizing and executing procurement activities for goods, materials, equipment, and services within the organization. This position leads a team of buyers, ensuring they operate efficiently while adhering to compliance standards and effectively managing both strategic and tactical sourcing functions.

Your Challenge

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with our business goals
  • Review and approve purchases exceeding the purchaser’s threshold
  • Create policies and procedures to guide procurement operations
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure project deadlines and customer needs are met
  • Monitor the cost, schedule and performance of major subcontracts
  • Research, evaluate and select vendors based on their price, quality and service
  • Negotiate contracts, terms and conditions with suppliers to secure beneficial agreements
  • Keep an eye on inventory levels to maintain adequate stock while minimizing excess
  • Analyze market trends to anticipate supply needs
  • Oversee the purchasing process to ensure adherence to company policies and regulations
  • Work with internal departments (e.g. finance, operations, production, engineering, quality and program management) to identify purchasing requirements
  • Review and approve purchase orders and handle procurement documentation effectively
  • Address and resolve any vendor performance issues in a timely manner
  • Design, implement, manage and monitor procurement reporting to fulfill company needs and establish measurable delivery performance metrics

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related field is preferred
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Demonstrated experience as a Purchasing Manager or in a similar procurement position
  • Exceptional negotiation and contract management abilities
  • Proficient in ERP systems
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to excel under pressure while effectively managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with stakeholders and suppliers
