About the department

Real estate is a growth area in a growing number of clients’ investment portfolios. abrdn Real Estate’s vision is to create a focused, agile and performance-driven real estate business that is relevant to clients. Given the overall dynamics of real estate, its link to the macro economic environment and the varying degrees of risk/return through different mediums: equity, debt, listed and multi-manager. To that end, the Real Estate Multi-Manager (REMM) team plays a key strategic role in offering clients access to multi-manager, secondary and other opportunities on a targeted, bespoke basis. We are global team with offices in each region around the world.

About the role

We are seeking a passionate, committed and experienced investment professional to fill an Analyst role in our Boston office. The role will be hybrid and entail:

  • Screening of new investment opportunities (unlisted real estate funds, JVs, secondaries, co-investments, clubs etc.) in the Americas, including origination of opportunities, assessing the suitability of investment opportunities and support the Investment Managers on maintaining a robust database of Americas pipeline opportunities.

  • Analysis and evaluation of investments, including leading peer analysis of similar opportunities, help in due diligence process for new investments, including performing financial modelling, commercial due diligence and preparation of investment memoranda for Investment Committee approval.

  • Financial modelling, ie. under the mentorship of the investment team you’ll help build and maintain the portfolio/fund of funds models, as well as underlying investment fund models.

  • Critically analyze, verify and justify underwriting assumptions used in forecast return projections.

  • Portfolio and investment management including assisting in the on-going management, oversight and monitoring of investments and portfolios and preparing regular client reports/communications and presentation.

  • Develop understanding of legal and tax due diligence with respect to real estate fund investments.

Skills and Experience

Experience and skills required:

  • Some relevant professional experience, ideally within real estate (asset management, acquisitions, portfolio management, research); and / or experience in investing in real estate funds (primaries, secondaries, co-investments, JVs)

  • Leadership and problem-solving

  • Experience with institutional clients

  • Company and competitor knowledge

  • Communication skills (writing, presenting etc.); ability to convey strong conviction

  • Analytical and technical skills (build and run sophisticated financial models)

  • Interpersonal skills (team player and cross-cultural awareness)
