The Reciprocating Compressor Fitter/Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of reciprocating compressors and associated auxiliary systems. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient compressor operation in compliance with API618 standard, OEM standards, and applicable safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on reciprocating compressors
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and lubrication system issues
- Conduct compressor overhauls including pistons, rings, valves, packing, crossheads, and bearings
- Inspect crankcases, cylinders, frames, and running gear for wear or damage
- Troubleshoot vibration, temperature, pressure, and performance issues
Inspection & Testing
- Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring
- Perform alignment checks and adjustments
- Assist with performance testing and commissioning of recip compressors
- Conduct PM on lubricators, conduct temperature survey data
Safety & Compliance
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work, working at heights and confined space procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards
- Identify hazards and participate in job safety analyses (JSAs)
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders
- Provide technical feedback and recommendations for equipment reliability improvements
- Assist in root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, reliability, and engineering teams
- Support contractors and OEM representatives during major overhauls
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to junior technicians
Experience
- Minimum 3–7 years hands-on experience maintaining reciprocating compressors
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy industrial environments preferred
Qualifications
- N3- N6 Trade certification in Mechanical Engineering
- OEM training or certification on reciprocating compressors would be advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 3–7 years hands-on experience maintaining reciprocating compressors
Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy industrial environments preferred
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of reciprocating compressor components and systems
- Experience with compressor brands such as Peter Brothehood, Dresser-Rand, Siemens, or equivalent
- Understanding of lubrication systems, pulsation control, and compressor valves
- Ability to read P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and OEM manuals
- Familiarity with vibration analysis and condition monitoring tools (advantage)

- Ability to lift heavy components and work in confined or elevated spaces
