Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). 

The Manager, Supply Chain develops, implements, and manages supply chain value streams and solutions.  The Manager, Supply Chain will provide leadership and direction to the supply chain team in East Peoria’s Undercarriage facility.  The supply chain span of control includes supply chain processes, planning, material requirements, inventory management, demand and orders management, supply chain performance, and factory logistics.

What You Will Do:

  • Provides input to Business Unit goals and strategy development.
  • Accountable for the supply chain organizational design, key inventory metrics, point-of-use material availability, product availability and demand planning.
  • Ensures facility production schedules provide proper product availability to dealers/customers while balancing manufacturing constraint issues.
  • Leads facility sales and operations planning, ensuring robust process conformance.
  • Works with Product Manager(s) to ensure supply chain strategies are developed and aligned with worldwide sourcing strategies.
  • Provides an input to supplier sourcing and resource management.
  • Accountable for supply chain performance improvements, including supplier certification and the supplier Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
  • Works closely with relevant functional areas and assigns resources to supply chain performance improvement projects.
  • Manages department resources, providing focus, motivation, and encouragement to all direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

  • Inventory Management:  Knowledge of processes and methods of inventory management; ability to effectively manage local or distributed inventories of raw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods.
    • Ensures that the inventory is at an appropriate level and meets both internal and external requirements.
    • Devises standard inventory management benchmarks to improve the processes.
    • Provides guidance on inventory management for a specific product group or location.
    • Applies systems and processes to identify and coordinate inventory requirements; resolves conflicts.
    • Coordinates daily work of inventory management for different locations within a facility or a supply network.
    • Reviews reports used for inventory management to find out related problems.
  • Logistics Management:  Knowledge of logistics and management; ability to follow proper processes and run operations for effective and efficient movement of materials and finished products.
    • Manages logistics processes through process improvement, prioritization, and project planning.
    • Implements and maintains monitoring systems to provide information on shipment status, shipped date, in transit location, estimated arrival date, and actual delivery date.
    • Develops and analyzes logistics plans that affect production, distribution, and inventory.
    • Works with historical, legislative and practical issues associated with domestic freight.
    • Participates in contract negotiations and interfaces with selected carriers necessary to maintain expected levels of service.
    • Consults on all major logistics processes, their interactions and operational requirements.
  • Supplier Management:  Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
    • Facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward.
    • Monitors supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.
    • Develops quality standards and controls for suppliers.
    • Builds and maintains partnerships with multiple and/or large suppliers.
    • Evaluates issues and terminates supplier relationships as appropriate; works with legal departments.
    • Ensures the fulfillment of report and record-keeping requirements.
  • Supply Chain Management:  Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and use, strategies, practices and tools for controlling the logistical processes.
    • Manages supply chain finance activities and measurements of effectiveness.
    • Advises others on capacity issues at various points in the supply chain.
    • Monitors the complete supply chain management process.
    • Consults on supply chain network design projects or processes.
    • Quantifies and evaluates benefits and risks of various supply chain strategies and approaches.
    • Participates in joint planning, process design/redesign with clients and partners.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree related to Supply Chain, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in Inventory Management and Control, Purchasing, Parts Distribution and/or Supply Chain/Logistics.
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing.
  • APICS CPM or CSCP National Certification.
  • Ability to develop and deploy creative/original solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to establish and monitor policies and guidelines.
