Senior Manager Mechancial Engineering
As a Sr. Manager of Mechancial Engineering at Abbott Neuromodulation, you will lead a technical team to develop technology platforms that improve the lives of those suffering from chronic pain and movement disorders.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This position works out of our Plano, Texas location in the Neuromodulation Division. Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum.
Use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to implement engineering principles, industry best practices, and state of the art methodologies to optimize innovation cycles and deliver business critical elements in a dynamic, fast-paced industry.
Responsible for leading a team of development engineers and technicians to solve problems and make sound design recommendations, in accordance with corporate, divisional and applicable regulatory requirements. Provides leadership and mentoring to engineers, and technicians with the capability to perform as a hands-on participant as necessary
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team through the prototype, concept, design, test, and implementation of mechanical hardware elements within the neuromodulation and neural interface ecosystem
- Identify and implement efficiencies and optimizations in development, integration, formal test, and manufacturing through tools such as FEA, modeling, simulations, and test automation
- Implement advanced design methodologies utilizing polymer, and biomaterials, while optimizing the design for cost, test, and manufacturability at scale
- Conceptualize new devices using material knowledge and innovative mechanical design.
- Work with outside consultants, vendors, and the medical community.
- Ensure requirements of Design Control Process are followed as necessary.
- Coordinate and manage resources to meet detailed project timelines and milestones.
- Support animal and bench testing and clinical evaluations.
- Review product drawings and/or models for design optimation and manufacturability.
- Hires and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback.
- Sets goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring.
- Provide effective people leadership to all team members, including goal setting, performance reviews, development planning and performance management.
- Implement a work environment that ensures all communications, interpersonal interactions and business behaviors are consistent with Abbott values and the Abbott Code of Conduct.
- Build and maintain effective cross functional relationships with all areas of the business.
- Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 15 years in R&D engineering/related
- Experience designing and testing medical devices required, preferably Class III active implantable devices such as interventional cardiology devices. Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability required.
- Thorough understanding of development; has successfully led significant development projects from beginning to end.
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results. Project leadership and management skills required.
- Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.
- Bachelors Degree – Mechanical/Biomedical Engieering or relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Preferred - Masters Degree – Mechancial Engineering.
