What We Do

First American is looking to add an Underwriting Counsel to our growing team in Denver, Colorado. This role will enable you to apply your passion for law and risk analysis to commercial real estate transactions. If you excel in collaborating with others to assess possibilities and discover solutions, it’s time to synthesize your analytical rigor with a premier brand in the commercial real estate space. This position plays a key role in transforming the commercial real estate experience by empowering our employees and customers to deliver next-generation solutions and results. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Be the underwriting point person from transaction inception through closing to include: analyze contracts of sale, review title insurance commitments, incorporate surveys and other due diligence materials into the risk assessment, manage all client communication and negotiations, approve closing instruction letters, and issue policies 
  • Interface with customers to analyze title and balance the Company’s risk tolerance to meet the customers’ goals
  • Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance in collaboration with a robust network of underwriting professionals 
  • Participate in continuing education activities and learning and development resources to spearhead your career path 

What You’ll Bring: 

  • Law Degree required 
  • Licensed to practice law, in good standing 
  • 5-7 years title underwriting experience, commercial experience preferred 
  • Must be familiar with real estate law, including federal and state regulations 
  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement processes 
  • Strong analytical rigor and business acumen 
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to provide alternative solutions or convey unpopular information with tact 
  • Capacity for abstract, creative thinking with a solution-oriented approach 
  • Ability to collaborate and act decisively, building relationships internally and externally 
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and timely follow up 

Pay Range: $95,350.00 - $127,125.00 Annually
This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting.  Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
