Under the direction of the Administrative Director of Psychiatry and the Chairman, the Crisis Intervention Clinician is responsible for the initial psychological and psychosocial assessment of mental health patients in the Emergency Trauma Center and throughout the organization. He/she is responsible for patient placements and referrals in
cooperation with the Emergency Trauma Center Unit staff and/or Psychiatrist. The Crisis Intervention Clinician also works collaboratively with the professional nurse on the inpatient psychiatric unit. He/she provides services for patients
ranging in age from infancy through late adulthood. The crisis intervention clinician identifies post hospital or community mental health needs of the patient are met

Job Description

Location: Abington

Schedule: Days with rotation, as needed, weekend and holiday rotation

  • Supports the mission of the institution to meet or exceed customer expectations utilizing established standards of behavior.
  • Performs an in-depth, comprehensive and systemic initial psychological and psychosocial assessment on designated caseload of patients to facilitate initial intake.
  • Develops and initiates, in collaboration with E/TC physicians and psychiatrists, a treatment plan including appropriate admission, facility placement, or discharge to provide effective course of treatment.
  • Utilizes identifiable psychotherapeutic principles and treatment modalities to assist in care of patient.
  • Provides consultative services for inpatients as requested to assist staff with management of care needs of patients and formulates and implements the discharge plan in conjunction with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Provides individual counseling to patient/families to improve their ability to cope with health problems and make appropriate decisions regarding the use of healthcare services. Communicates family dynamics, including social, environmental, psychological and cultural factors to the healthcare team, facilitating timely and proactive discharges.
  • Identifies socio-economic needs of patients/families and provides instruction for patient/family in order to increase knowledge of available resources and entitlement programs available in the community.
  • Performs other duties and complies with hospital policies and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: CRISIS INTERVENTION CLINICIAN
A. Experience: Minimum of 3 years in mental health field with crisis intervention experience.
B. Education and Training: B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or related field - Masters preferred.
C. License Certification and Registration: Licensure in appropriate field preferred but not required.
D. Other Requirements: CPR certified - Course C (AHA); ability to perform and document mental
health status exam and psychiatric history; crisis intervention skills; strong communication and
counseling skills.
