This role will play a pivotal part in supporting various functions at The Oncenter Convention Center, Arena, and Theaters, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of unforgettable live events. THE ROLE

As an Assistant Operations Manager at The Oncenter, you will be responsible for assuring the facility is ready, and smooth operation of events.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Directs, supervises, and schedules Operations Supervisors & Staff; Building and Grounds (through appropriate county offices); Technical Services; Event Operations; Conversion and Room Setup including ADA compliance; Public Safety; Security; and Custodial Services.

  • Orders, directs, and follows up on work orders for repairs of the physical property and grounds of the various facilities.

  • Coordinates the Operations activities with other departments and event related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.

  • Implements and updates facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments.

  • Ensures that the Operations Department receives pertinent information for the most effective use of the facility and staffing.

  • Oversees coordination of the maintenance of the Physical Plant, systems, equipment, and vehicles in conjunction with appropriate County departments.

  • Assists the Director in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget and recommends a capital budget for 1-year and 5-year long-range repairs and improvements to the facility.

  • Assists the Director with requisitions of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines.

  • Provides yearly inventory of all equipment.

  • Knows and ensures all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed.

  • Develops program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures.

  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves operational problems and complaints.

  • Attends periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and policy changes.

  • Works with the Director of Operations in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements. Reviews contracts for compliance with events and /or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.

  • Negotiates with vendors, unions, contractors and/or service providers.

  • Coordinates with appropriate County department in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations.

  • Participates in energy reduction and savings guidelines.

  • Assists the Director with overseeing special projects, such as construction, remodeling, or expansion. Plans and directs outside vendors/contractors work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise IATSE Local 9, IUOE Local 158 and other ASM employees as assigned. Schedules employees in accordance with applicable CBA.  Processes payroll based on CBA and State and Federal requirements.  Ensures efficient and safe work practices.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM's policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree; or

  • Five years of experience in the event/operations industry; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS YOU’LL NEED

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to learn and apply computer systems quickly and efficiently.

  • Ability to effectively schedule, motivate, and supervise staff.

  • Supervisory experience required.

  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

  • Demonstrate problem-solving and communication skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Must be able to walk/stand/sit for long periods of time.

  • You may be required to work both indoors and outdoors as required by the function.

  • Must have the physical ability to maneuver around facility(ies), at times, walking and/or standing up to 8-10 hours daily.
