The Plant Manager is a member of the operations team and has prime responsibility for the production and technical (maintenance & repair, and –CAPEX- projects) He / she is responsible for managing all operational / production activities in order to ensure the production process in the most cost effective and efficient way, while meeting all quality standards and requirements and sales commitments.
The Plant Manager manages all production operations within a Plant on multiple shifts, to assure cost effective, timely manufacture of quality products. He / she integrates production operations and processes over multiple shifts, with a focus on establishing short- and mid-term activities directed toward production continuity and balance, such as creating shift schedules, ensuring requisition of materials and equipment maintenance and repair. The Plant Manager coordinates and integrates with other Operations functional areas such as Supply Chain (Planning, Customer Services, Logistics & Warehousing) to ensure support in attaining output, productivity, and quality. As a managerial role, the focus is also on people management: selecting, organizing, training, and motivating the production staff to ensure consistent attainment of production schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels. The level of the Plan Manager role depends on the size and complexity of the production processes, number of FTE managed (direct and indirect). Depending on the size and structure of the organization, the Plant Manager will supervise a Production Manager (managing the shifts) and a Technical Manager. In smaller organizations the responsibilities may be combined into one role, merging Plant Manager and Production Manager, or (if the role of Technical Manager is not included in the structure) the Plant Manager may directly manage the Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Technicians.

Job Description:

Production Planning and Execution:

o Manages the (operational) activities in the plant, within the applicable Nutreco standards and procedures, in order to achieve an efficient and effective execution and delivery of results

o Coordinates production operations within a single plant that uses common production equipment, methods, and standards over multiple shifts.

o Directs unit supervisors in establishing and maintaining production schedules within established procedures and budgets.

Maintenance and repair (M&R):

o Oversees the mid and long term maintenance planning for the assigned area, including budgets

o Ensures that all maintenance activities (planned maintenance programmes, shut-downs, or emergency repairs) are planned and prioritized in order to prevent / rectify break-downs and malfunctions and minimise business disruptions

o Ensures that all maintenance activities with regard to malfunctions, maintenance, repairs and modifications, are performed in such a way that the work can be performed in an efficient and safe manner and the production department(s) encounter minimal nuisance and / or stagnation, balancing the need for continuous production and stops / shutdowns due to (planned and unplanned) maintenance

Leadership and people management:

o Provides leadership to his / her area in production and M&R (i.e. setting individual objectives, reviewing performance and providing ongoing feedback on a(n) (in)formal basis) so that all reports are aware of what they are required to achieve and how they are performing against their objectives

o Manages and coaches a team of professionals, motivates employees through sincere and concrete feedback and take appropriate action when needed, stimulate team cooperation and mobility and ensure that managers and staff are deployable (quantitatively and qualitatively) and willing to and capable of realizing the set objectives.

Reporting:

o Develops and/or monitors the relevant KPI’s to maintain an insight in the performance of the OpCo in the assigned area against the set targets, and to make recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness

o Monitors established performance indicators, including variance reports, production reports, quality reports, and injury reports.

Quality / HSE Compliance:

o Assures that all activities and operations are executed in line with HSE / Quality rules, regulations, procedures, instructions, guidelines, and promotes awareness thereof, including addressing anomalies to others.

o Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.

Continuous improvement:

o Identifies and implements improvements to the OpCo's systems, processes and practices in order to improve / optimize effectiveness and efficiency of the processes.
