Job Description Summary:

Provide system wide vision, leadership, and direction for facility management operations of 16 acute care sites throughout OhioHealth. Portfolio consists of approximately 6 million SF and almost 200 associates. Develop and drive a metrics-based performance environment that results in a best-in-class facilities management department from a culture, innovation, infrastructure stability and reliability, cost, quality, performance, and service perspective.

JOB SUMMARY

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

  • Candidate is a senior leader with proven results managing a business portfolio of similar size and scope. 

  • Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Facility Management, Operations Management, or equivalent combination of experience in a similar leadership field is a plus.  

  • Key responsibilities / requirements: evaluate and expeditiously implement key initiatives and innovative concepts to improve business practices and efficiency; fiscal management focused on budgeting, forecasting and profit and loss management; value based purchasing, contract negotiation and third party partner management; evaluating and managing risk; implementing and managing efficient processes and procedures; proactively managing regulatory compliance strategies and requirements; driving overall organizational excellence.  

  • Possess a minimum of 10 years of corporate facility / other leadership and management experience, including experience with an organization of similar size and scope. 

  • Manufacturing, logistics, corporate or healthcare experience a plus.

  • Understands the criticality of successful compliance and regulatory programs.

  • Experience with specific knowledge and experience with Joint Commission, NFPA, ADA, OSHA compliance and other regulatory strategies is a plus but not required. 

  • Qualified candidate preferred to have experience in planning, scheduling, and implementing efficient major preventative maintenance programs; developing cost databases and models; coordinating, documenting, and controlling maintenance and capital improvement projects; managing multiple large facilities; and developing business strategies that support these efforts.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Advanced Degree in business, operations, logistics or other facility related fields is advantageous.

  • Previous multiple facility or business operations management experience is desirable.

  • Membership in key trade organization(s).

  • Should possess a fundamental understanding of facility management or similar large-scale management experience with a major organization with multiple facilities.  

  • The ideal candidate is: 1) A visionary that can lead the facilities organization and team to the next level, with the expectations that the OhioHealth facilities management approach become a facility and process leader in the country.  2) A proven executive level leader and communicator that has demonstrated results in a similar size and scope environment, whether as the senior leader or an integral part of the organizations leadership team.

  • At OhioHealth, this leader will be an integral part of the Real Estate, Construction and Facilities senior leadership team, as well as working at the senior level at all acute care campuses.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

25%

  • Provide system-wide direction and oversight to facility management staff responsible for the engineering, maintenance and operations of all physical facilities and related support services at each of the member hospitals and neighborhood care sites.

  • Standardize systems, policies, and procedures across the organization to effectively and efficiently manage all system facilities with an emphasis on a consistent, well-documented best-practices approach and the use of industry metrics to either validate or move toward, market-like operating expenses.

20%  

  • Establish effective quality and service improvement programs at each and all of the Property Management and Facility Services departments at all system hospitals and care sites.

  • Lead the campus directors and managers in implementing effective work assignment processes and performance measures to ensure that essential maintenance and operations services are provided in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Develop a system for standardized and ongoing measurement and reporting of department performance relative to customers’ expectations.

  • Provide the facility management skills needed to bring a heightened level of rigor to the facility management process, including scheduling, resource allocation and budget control.

  • Oversee the development of the annual operating budgets for each of the campus cost centers and provide System leadership with sufficient analysis and insight to understand the common and unique maintenance, repair, and staffing needs of each site.

  • Develop a capital equipment replacement program for the building and infrastructure systems of each campus that ensures continued reliable operation of the physical plant while carefully and thoroughly balancing risk and cost.

  • Oversee Regulatory Compliance measures for Facility programs at all member hospitals and ambulatory facilities.

  • Lead efforts to establish systematic and standard processes for complying with Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements for management of Equipment, Utilities and Life Safety Systems.

  • Conduct regular review of required compliance with inspection, testing and documentation of building safety and life support systems such as smoke detection, fire suppression, medical gases, essential electrical systems, etc.

  • Establish routine measures for auditing status of all required operating permits and licenses for all installed systems, equipment, and public utilities subject to state, local and/or federal licensing requirements or as required by insurance providers.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and with internal customers and outside partners. Represent the Real Estate, Construction and Facilities business unit on various internal and external committees and task forces within the community. 

  • Engage with other senior leaders on various community engagement alignment activities within the communities we serve.    

  • Meet regularly with hospital administrators and key department directors.

  • Establish working relationships with major equipment and utility providers as well as local government representatives with jurisdiction over plant and facility regulatory matters.

  • Provide the support needed to enable the staff to keep current with evolving facility management techniques, trends, codes, and regulations effecting hospital and medical office building maintenance.

  • Review and standardize staff training and skills inventory programs throughout the system to ensure that staff competencies meet job requirements, and that a comprehensive growth and succession plan is in place.
