The Senior Manager, Website Operations leads the technical delivery, strategic direction, and operational excellence of our website. Acting as the technical Product Owner for our content management system (CMS), this role oversees the development, integration, and optimization of the web platform. Collaborating closely with IT, Product, Marketing Operations, Performance Marketing and other internal and external partners, this role ensures all Amex GBT websites are scalable, secure, and fully aligned with business objectives.


What you will do:

TECHNICAL DELIVERY & PLATFORM OWNERSHIP

  • CMS Management: Serve as the technical Product Owner for the CMS, overseeing platform configurations, upgrades, and customizations to meet business needs.
  • Technical Roadmap: Working with internal and external technical experts, develop and manage a clear roadmap for platform enhancements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and scalability requirements.
  • Tool & Technology Evaluation: Research and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies that improve scalability, enhance security, and streamline workflows.
  • Performance Optimization: Using various analytics tools, monitor and optimize website performance, including uptime, reliability, page load speed and other website core vitals.
  • Integration Oversight: Partner with Marketing Operations where applicable to lead integrations with third-party tools (e.g., marketing automation, analytics, CRM platforms, personalization and testing tools, performance monitoring, etc.), ensuring seamless functionality and maintaining data integrity.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION

  • Strategic Planning: Align website strategies with organizational goals, ensuring platform capabilities can support branding, lead generation, user engagement, customer support and other initiatives to drive business growth and user satisfaction.
  • User Journey Optimization: Partner with Senior Manager Digital Experience and applicable agency partners to enhance website navigation, site design and functionality to reduce friction and improve customer journeys.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as primary technical liaison between internal teams and external agencies, ensuring business requirements and translated into actionable technical deliverables.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Facilitate alignment between technical and creative teams, and key business unites to ensure cohesive delivery of projects and campaigns.
  • Vendor Oversight: Manage external vendor and agency relationships to negotiate contracts, monitor website performance and compliance with Amex GBT standards and requirements.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE & COMPLIANCE

  • Issue Management: Oversee the day-to-day technical operations and health of the website, addressing and resolving technical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Compliance Enforcement: Partnering with internal legal, privacy, and technical teams to ensure full adherence to legal and regulatory standards, including ADA accessibility, GDPR and CCPA requirements.
  • Workflow Optimization: Establish, document and enforce processes for website updates, deployments and governance, creating a scalable operational framework.
  • Privacy Tools Management: Oversee privacy platform (One Trust) for cookie compliance, ensuring all privacy-related features are implemented and maintained effectively.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Team Development: As technical product owner, guide developers and technical program managers, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Cross-Functional Projects: Lead technical initiatives across departments, ensuring technical solutions align with creative, marketing and business requirements.

What We´re Looking For:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development or related field.
    • Relevant certification in web technologies, project management or digital platforms (e.g., Agile, PMP, or CMS-specific designations) is a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • CMS Expertise: 8+ years of hands-on experience with CMS platforms, such as Drupal, Word Press or similar, including platform architecture, configurations and integrations.
  • Web Development Background: Familiarity with web development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and familiarity with modern web frameworks.
  • Web Analytics Tools: Experience working with tools such as Google Analytics, TGM, or similar for monitoring website performance and user behavior.
  • Project Management: Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies, project management & delivery tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Asana, etc.), and managing enterprise-scale website projects.
  • Collaboration: Experience in enterprise organizations with complex digital ecosystems. Proven experience collaborating and coordinating with web developers, technical program managers, UX/UI designers, and cross-functional collaborators and stakeholders
  • Technical Strategy Development: Demonstrated success in defining and implementing technical roadmaps that align with business objectives.
  • Vendor & Partner Collaboration: Proven ability to manage vendor relationship and oversee external partners.
  • Compliance & Security: Familiarity with legal and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., ADA, GDPR, CCPA) and experience with tools like One Trust or equivalent privacy management systems.
  • Multilingual Websites: Knowledge of managing and optimizing multilingual or regionally-targeted websites.
