If you are a structural design expert with a passion for seeing your parts on high impact products, you will have an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to transitioning our world class electric humanoid robot from R&D to production. As a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer with a focus in Product Structures on the Atlas Structures and Mechanisms team, you will leverage your creativity and knowledge of various product minded fabrication processes to maximize structural performance per dollar across the entire robot. Additionally, as a senior member of the team, you will be an integral part of developing production focused best practices and expertise in our structural design team.

Navigating ambiguity, creative thinking, attention to detail, technical excellence, efficient communication, and a team first collaborative mindset are key superpowers that will lead to success. Every day you will strategize with a multidisciplinary team on the most efficient structural approach to achieving world class packaging efficiency while looking for clever ways to keep part cost low with production in mind. Your diverse knowledge of product oriented fabrication processes such as casting, forging, stamping, sheet metal, hydroforming, injection molding, etc. will be essential in selecting the optimal process for each component that you design.

How you will make an impact:

  • Maximizing structural performance per dollar to bring Atlas from prototype to product

  • Select the optimal production process that balances performance and cost for a diverse set of part types and design each component expertly for the selected process

  • Take high level product requirements and distill into pragmatic component and assembly level specifications

  • Develop new concepts and perform analysis on designs while considering constraints from multiple disciplines with a product-oriented focus

  • Create CAD models, drawings, specifications, assembly documentation, and test plans for parts and assemblies

  • Troubleshoot issues, determine root causes, design and implement corrective and preventative solutions

  • Manage and work with outside vendors for components and assemblies that require outsourcing

  • Expertly manage more than one project concurrently while still meeting deadlines

  • High level of technical communication proficiency

  • Adapt quickly to changing project needs with a team first mindset

  • Mentor and grow junior members of the team with structural design and production focused best practices
