We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician (m/f/d) to oversee the daily operations of our data center. In this role, you will be responsible for managing installations, decommissions, hardware setups, capacity planning, and incident responses. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to ensure seamless operations, security, and efficiency within the data center.
What to expect?
1. Data Center Site Preparation & Hardware Implementation:
Organize the preparation and cleanup of the DC floor and racks before and after installations and decommissions.
Oversee changes to hardware (hostname, device type, CPU count) and manage the hardware decommissioning process.
Coordinate power connections and network planning (WAN/LAN/SAN) for new installations and ensure proper hardware labelling.
Manage the hardware implementation process, ensuring successful installation sign-offs and equipment acceptance.
2. Capacity Management:
Maintain and update DC inventory, layout, and configuration management in alignment with site preparation and hardware implementation.
Update and report on DC occupancy on a monthly basis to support capacity planning.
Manage notification funnels (Aldea) to ensure proper workflow and communication.
3. Physical Security Management:
Enforce data center access policies by managing access profiles for permanent employees, contractors, and temporary workers.
Perform regular reviews of DC access, ensuring compliance with global physical security protocols, and oversee access termination and validation procedures.
Conduct security audits to ensure physical security procedures align with global DC security instructions.
4. Incident & Problem Management:
Track, manage, and report on data center incidents, ensuring timely resolution and communication to all relevant parties.
Maintain and update incident communication flow, including the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) Phone Book.
Ensure third-party co-location providers are informed about incident response protocols and communication procedures.
Act as the local DC Technician point of contact for incident response.
5. Change Management:
Conduct data center infrastructure risk assessments for all proposed changes.
Approve and communicate required changes through established channels, ensuring external suppliers are informed and changes are coordinated.
Manage change requests (GRE RFC) and participate in change advisory board (CAB) meetings for approvals.
6. Project Support:
Provide support for ongoing data center projects, including the closure of the Balsberg site and the move to Dielsdorf.
Support service-level agreements (SLA) and statement of work (SOW) for new customers.
Assist with data center transitions, migrations, and other critical infrastructure projects as needed.
What do we expect?
Proven experience in data center operations, hardware management, and infrastructure support.
Strong understanding of WAN/LAN/SAN connectivity and hardware configurations.
Experience with physical security protocols and access control systems.
Ability to manage incidents, track problem resolution, and maintain accurate documentation.
Knowledge of change management processes and risk assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with data center inventory management systems (DOMS) and configuration management tools.
Experience with project management and coordinating large-scale migrations or hardware implementations.
Certifications in data center management, physical security, or network administration.
