About This Opportunity  

Join our dynamic team as a Media and Content Officer and help to shape the University’s storytelling for our key audiences of media, industry, government and community. You’ll collaborate closely with the Manager, Media and Content, to create compelling content that supports UQ’s strategic objectives in research, education, and community engagement.

This is a unique opportunity for an emerging communicator to refine their skills in a fast-paced, content-rich environment, working alongside a team of dedicated professionals.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Support the media team by liaising with subject matter experts, internal and external stakeholders, and assisting with media strategies and communication plans.
  • Research, create and produce original multimedia content to effectively tell the stories of the University’s researchers, staff and students.
  • Assist with the production and monitoring of social media content, as well as managing content calendars to ensure timely and relevant updates across the University’s channels.
  • Respond to media enquiries, assist journalists with gathering information, and build strong relationships with a broad range of media outlets.

About You

  • A degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, with at least 1 year of experience in media, public relations, or a similar industry role.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using social media and digital media platforms to engage and reach diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
