Working from our office in Santa Monica, CA, you will work with our team of world class designers and engineers to create a new paradigm of products that will merge the digital with the physical world. While part of the Design team, you will work independently between ID, Engineering, UXR and Strategy, from research to concepts, prototypes and production. 

We’re looking for an Human Factors Specialist to join our Spectacles Design Team! 

What you’ll do:

  • Build and own the human factors discipline at Snap Lab

  • Develop an exceptional (human factors) understanding of the people that are going to use our products (particularly the users head) 

    • Establish a Snap HF database, develop standards, HF design principles and guidelines

    • Collect, analyze and standardize ergonomic datasets (IPD, head shapes, ear to forehead dimensions, hinge forces, etc.), by tapping into industry resources and by running your own user studies

  • Employ appropriate methods (qualitative and quantitative) and tools (lab instruments, surveys, and assessment) to address questions at hand, conducting user-centered research, testing and analysis

  • Collaborate with ID to implement learnings into the HW design (from evaluation of prototypes to defining relevant demographic dataset for mass produced products) 

  • Work closely with ID, Engineering, User Research and outside vendors:

    • Collaborate effectively with specialists in our engineering teams and with relevant outside partners by establishing x-functional relationships to accelerate data collection and learning.

    • Collaborate with our UXR team, setting up and conducting user testing to validate your assumptions and to understand current shortfalls better.

    • Produce data that enables us to make intelligent trade-offs between the lens experiences and wearability.

  • Generate strategic and actionable inputs and requirements for product development. Directly impact the design of our products, increasing product wearability, performance and improving user experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to lead all human factors efforts

  • Knowledge of technical tools that are appropriate for the task

  • Knowledge of general human factors procedures, human ergonomics, biomechanics, motor control, wearability, techniques, data storage, data entry, and data science principles

  • Ability to effectively plan, implement, and adjust human factor activities to meet organizational goals and objectives.

  • Ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative research for various human and user experience-related problem statements. Skills in analyzing large datasets to generate meaningful results. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders verbally and in writing

  • Skills to condense complex data for various stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline or equivalent years of experience

  • 5+ years of relevant human factors experience

  • Solid understanding of ergonomics and biomechanics

  • Track record of HF work on production products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in an engineering or science discipline

  • Experience with headworn tech and generally wearable technology

  • Basic understanding of visual science, auditory science, human motor control 

  • Experience negotiating complex trade studies to optimize for wearability, usability, schedule and performance

  • Experience creating and analyzing (physical) human interfaces using digital human models

  • Working knowledge in 3D CAD (NX, Solidworks, Creo, Rhino, or similar)

  • Understanding of Product Development Process

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $168,000-$252,000 annually.


 

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $160,000-$239,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $143,000-$214,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
