As a Senior Research Engineer at Matic, you will work with a talented, seasoned team building novel algorithms to help our robot understand and interact with its environment. You will push the boundaries of robot perception, building endearing robots that will change the way people manage household tasks.

The ideal candidate has a passion for solving problems and deploying those solutions to real, working products. We’re looking for detail-obsessed “idea machines”, able to push beyond the current state of the art to break new ground in robotic perception.

What you'll do

  • Translate open-ended, real-world problems into well-defined machine learning problems

  • Design, build, and code computer vision-based algorithms

  • Lead core projects and mentor junior engineers

  • Build novel neural network architectures

  • Design and implement robust 3D geometry-based vision algorithms

  • Build scalable machine learning infrastructure to train on large datasets and simultaneously be reproducible

  • Bring new approaches and concepts to our work, and push the state of the art of robotic perception by applying ideas used in other fields to our use cases

  • Work to enable Level 5 autonomy in consumer robotics

  • Cross-collaborate with Hardware, Electrical, and Systems teams to bring product vision to life

What we look for

  • Robust academic training in machine learning, computer vision, and/or perception tasks, including 3D perception, multi-class object detection, 3D maps, and advanced robotics controls

  • A record of publication in top machine learning, computer vision, or robotics journals is a plus

  • Track record of product-focused research applied to real-world applications

  • Track record of leading projects and teams to success in solving real-world problems in computer vision or robotics

  • 3+ years of experience working on applied problems outside of the scope of academic degree work is a plus

  • Fluency with Rust (or C++) and Python (PyTorch or similar tools)

  • Ability to write clean, reliable code that is easily maintained

We'd love to hear from you if...

  • You are genuinely motivated to help those around you

  • You are passionate about learning outside of your normal comfort zones

  • You love diagnosing complex technical issues

  • You are excited to do great work

If you got to this point, we hope you're feeling excited about this opportunity at Matic! Even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We're eager to meet people who are keen to learn and are passionate about what Matic is building. We want to hear how you can contribute to our team in a variety of ways – not just the above boxes.
