POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Specialized and Corporate Financing will lead and manage the strategic direction and execution of BDC’s specialized and corporate financing portfolio. This role involves overseeing the strategies and activities of Growth and Transition Capital, Wholesale Financing (which includes Syndicated Financing, Securitization and Specialty Finance),  Technology Financing and Corporate Financing. The incumbent will work closely with senior leadership, financial institutions, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of financing solutions that align with BDC’s long-term goals.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Lead, develop and execute the strategic vision for Growth and Transition Capital, Wholesale Financing (including Syndicated Financing, Securitization and Specialty Finance), Technology Financing and Corporate Financing teams with a portfolio size of $14 billion and approximately 250 employees.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to align financing strategies with BDC’s overall objectives.  Identify and evaluate new financing opportunities and investments to support BDC’s growth in line with Specialized Financing and Corporate Financing.

  • Define and oversee the delivery of the Go-to-market and operating model required to deliver on objectives. Work in collaboration with Shared services, Risk Management, Marketing, HR and Finance to enable this model

  • Oversee the origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of Specialized Financing and Corporate Financing transactions. Monitor market trends and economic conditions to optimize financing structures and terms.

  • Oversee thorough due diligence on potential clients, including, valuation, financial analysis, management assessment, credit assessment, risk assessment and market evaluation.  Ensure risks associated with Specialized Financing and Corporate Financing are identified and mitigated, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, financial institutions, investors, and external partners. Lead negotiations with borrowers, co-lenders, and other stakeholders.

  • Present strategies and performance metrics to the executive team and board of directors on a regular basis.

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of specialized financing leaders and professionals.  Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members in line with our BDC way.  Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred (CFA, CBV, CPAs or other relevant designation)

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in growth capital (junior debt/mezzanine), corporate finance, syndicated financing , and securitization (structured finance). 

  • Minimum of 10 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and executing complex financing transactions.

  • Strong understanding of financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, and looking at opportunities through both a lending and investment perspective.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Strategic thinker with a strong results-oriented approach.

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.

  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Exceptional problem solving and ability to pivot in a rapidly changing work environment.

  • Bilingualism (French and English).
