At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA) Physicists apply fundamental theoretical physics and chemistry-based scientific theory to the field of engineering to provide solutions for difficult technical challenges.  They demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the role of the design of experiments, and the requirements for creating statistically relevant results.

MDA physicists possess a thorough understanding of fundamentals of device physics and material science, including topics such as superconducting and low--temperature physical phenomena; semiconductor physics and devices; quantum mechanics. They also possess a basic understanding of fundamentals and best practices in digital design, RF engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering. Job responsibilities include modeling and simulation of novel devices; developing and leading experiments; cryogenic test and measurement of advanced circuits; developing procedures, methods, and tools for test; providing direction to test engineers and technicians; analyzing experimental data and provide recommendations and feedback; and publishing novel results. MDA Physicists may also lead multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of program tasking, and then report results to internal and external customers.

We are seeking a physicist with a robust data analysis background that has an interest in data analytics and visualization. The ideal candidate has experience with data science and connecting large data sets together. Strong candidates are willing to learn about the existing infrastructure and iterate with stakeholder input as     well as understand the underlying theory around superconducting process control monitoring devices. This candidate is expected to create unique data visualization products using tableau and other tools available to them.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Tableau to build core capabilities used to better decipher and visualize data supporting the needs of a new superconducting electronics wafer fabrication line.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand data analysis needs and build custom solutions in Tableau to meet those needs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to data fidelity, dashboards or reports.
  • Work under minimal direction to proactively determine and develop data visualization solutions to meet ever the changing needs of a fast paced R&D environment.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and verbal format.

This position requires full-time on-site work at our Advanced Technology Lab OR our Annapolis Junction, MD location.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field and 3 plus years' experience; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant professional experience; Bachelor's and 8 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in Tableau dashboard creation.
  • Experience in modern programing languages (Python, SQL etc.).
  • Knowledge of databases concepts and data structure.
  • Experienced in data visualization best practices.
  • Understand calculated fields, how to implement parameters, level of detail calculations and hierarchies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, able to execute independently and with a small team.
  • Must be willing to work on site 100% of time.
  • Limited travel to local Northrop Grumman facilities may be required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with polygraph clearance per business requirements. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in experimental physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Highly skilled in modern programing languages (Python, SQL etc.)
  • Skilled in statistical data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience in high volume automated manufacturing microelectronics or semiconductor fabs.
  • Experience with manufacturing datasets and data structures specifically for semiconductor or microelectronics engineering.
  • Understands the differences in data representation between products, plans, recipes, and varying levels of manufacturing containers (lots, wafers, die, etc.).
