POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Business Advisor, Sales and Marketing delivers standard and customized advisory services projects for the practice, with a focus on professional, high-quality solutions that support SMEs in achieving their sales and marketing expansion objectives. This person manages project delivery of ~20 mandates in the Medium & Large client segment; provides subject matter expertise in sales and marketing, as well as sales support; and helps promote the practice’s offering in the region.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET 

  • Deliver standard and customized advisory services projects in sales and marketing.

  • Provide a unique offering of strategic services, including strategic analysis, project management and client workshops, to targeted entrepreneurs in the region. The focus will be on delivering professional, high-quality sales and marketing advisory solutions that help entrepreneurs grow their business online and offline.

  • Manage project delivery by monitoring a group of senior BDC Network Consultants' project scope, budget, schedule and objectives, and perform quality assurance on their projects and deliverables. Provide coaching to this group of Network Consultants when new solutions are introduced to the market.

  • Serve as a “subject matter expert” and stay current on market trends to support the national development and evolution of practice solutions and tools.

  • Contribute to business development with BDC’s Client Partners and Account Managers working towards a regional sales and revenue target. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations to complement BDC’s value proposition to help Canadian SMEs develop and become more competitive.

  • Keep abreast of evolving sales and marketing trends in strategic thinking that are relevant to SMEs and leverage this knowledge to continuously evolve the offering together with all crossfunctional BDC Advisory Services teams.

  • Provide sales support by performing client need diagnostics and providing input for custom proposals. This function is complemented by industry benchmark research and financial indicators using the Strategyzer Business Model Canvas framework.

  • Contribute to practice outreach activities by developing marketing content and helping to promote the offering. As the Sales and Marketing subject matter expert, represent BDC at regional events and in various other situations as opportunities occur.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration sales and marketing; an MBA or related professional designation is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years in a consulting firm, sales consulting firm, marketing agency with experience in developing strategic plans and providing one-on-one coaching for better execution. And/or experience in sales and marketing business functions to drive strategies to execution.

  • Strong understanding of Sales and Marketing, including emerging channels and approaches in a regional, national, and international context.

  • Ability to develop pragmatic solutions that are relevant in a SME business environment and to provide strategic coaching to the business, including in-person workshops, as required.

  • Strong client and customer service orientation, with a clear focus on delivering strong added value to the client.

  • Proven ability to manage and deliver standard and custom consulting projects.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices in the context of delivering services to clients.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as an ability to participate in outreach, promotion and business development activities.

  • Excellent capacity to influence stakeholders and to demonstrate emotional intelligence.

  • Teamwork, strong relationship-building skills and strong capacity to be emotionally independent.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Occasional travel within a region.
