Oaktree Asset Backed Finance (“ABF”) is a recently formed strategy which makes private (non-traded) invest in pools of contractual assets, or “assets”, such as loans, leases, receivables, mortgages and licensing agreements, which may or may not reference property or other hard assets.  Asset categories include corporate, consumer, real estate, transportation, equipment, infrastructure, energy, intellectual property and other esoteric types. On behalf of ABF funds and clients, Oaktree: 

• Purchases, or commits to purchase, assets, with or without leverage 

• Lends, or commits to lend, secured by assets, in a senior or mezzanine position 

• Insures, or provides capital relief against, assets 

• Provides essential capital to a business primarily engaged in the origination and servicing of assets

The Role 

Oaktree is seeking a summer intern with a 2027 or 2028 expected graduation date to spend 10-weeks within our Asset Backed Finance group. 

All Investment Interns will participate in a formal modeling and valuation training curriculum and focus on transaction functions and portfolio management activities. 

Responsibilities include:  

• Gathering, reviewing and managing information about potential and existing investments 

• Researching areas of specialty lending or leasing, including historical borrower performance and originator capabilities

• Assisting the team in creating financial models, which forecast securitization cashflows

• Responding to, and interacting with, counterparties and internal stakeholders

Qualifications  

• Some knowledge of fixed income and accounting fundamentals

• Comfortable solving quantitative problems and navigating human psychology

• Computer literate with some experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Education 

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a high GPA from a university or college. 

Summer Stipend  

$43/hour
