Summary:
As an Operations Engineer, a typical day involves overseeing the smooth functioning of production systems and services, ensuring they meet operational requirements and service agreements. This role requires continuous monitoring, managing delivery processes, and addressing any issues that arise to maintain system reliability and performance. The position demands proactive engagement with various teams to coordinate efforts and uphold service standards, contributing to the overall stability and efficiency of the operational environment.

Tower Focus
The Compute / Cloud SRE ensures the reliability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency of server, virtualization, and public/private cloud infrastructure. The role covers Windows and Linux server operations, virtualization platforms, OS hardening, patch and vulnerability remediation, and Infrastructure-as-Code, with automation used to standardize and scale compute operations.

Tower-Specific Technical Skills
Cloud (IaaS/PaaS): Public cloud services (AWS / Azure / GCP) - compute VMs, storage, shared storage, networking, autoscaling, load balancing, and messaging working knowledge of PaaS services.
Operating systems: Linux (RHEL / Red Hat) and Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) administration and OS-level troubleshooting (file system, disk, services).
OS hardening & security: Baseline security configuration, CIS Benchmarks / Microsoft Security Baselines, local security / audit policies, TLS/SSL and cipher-suite hardening.
Virtualization: VMware vSphere / ESXi, vCenter, NSX-T, vSAN, Site Recovery Manager (SRM), and VxRail environments.
Patch & vulnerability management: Patch deployment, rollback, and vulnerability remediation using scanners (Qualys, Nessus, Rapid7) and tools such as Tanium, Chef Habitat / Automate.
Infrastructure-as-Code & CI/CD: Terraform and Ansible for provisioning GitHub / Jenkins for CI-CD.
Ways of working: Change / CAB representation, vendor coordination, and adherence to SLAs.

Automation Skills (Python & Ansible in Compute / Cloud SRE Context)
Develop Python scripts and Ansible playbooks to automate OS build, hardening, patching, and configuration drift remediation across Windows and Linux estates.
Automate cloud resource provisioning and lifecycle operations using Ansible modules and Terraform integrated into CI-CD pipelines.
Build self-healing and auto-remediation workflows for common compute/cloud incidents to reduce toil.

Experience
Required: 8 – 10 years of hands-on experience in Compute / Cloud SRE operations, engineering, and automation as described above.

Certifications (Added Advantage)
Any of the following tower-specific certifications will be considered an added advantage:

Cloud: AWS SysOps Administrator / AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional), or Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104) / Azure Solutions Architect.

Linux: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) / RHCSA.
Windows: Microsoft Windows Server administration certification.
Virtualization: VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV).
Automation: Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
