Overview of Role
The candidate will report to the Regional Head of Operations. In addition to providing day-to-day operational support to the assigned desks, the incumbent will provide support to the Commercial team to ensure that service standards remain at a consistently high level.
As a Junior Operator, key responsibilities will include the execution of daily operations, with emphasis on customer focus, Inventory control and stakeholder management. Furthermore, your tasks will be to:
- Have quick and correct attention to queries.
- Provide innovative feedback on how to constantly improve the business.
- Ensure compliance with all governmental regulatory agencies, Import/Export regulations, ASTM guidelines and our internal corporate policies.
Main Responsibilities
- Liaise with traders, operators, finance, contracts, accounting, and tax departments to ensure correct and timely processing of physical trade movements, as well as product payables and receivables, addressing any pricing discrepancies accordingly.
- Enter trade data into Gunvor’s ERTM system, assigning them to the appropriate contracts and ensuring timely accurate invoices are generated in the trading platform.
- Reconcile month end inventory across appropriate desks (explaining/correcting any differences accordingly)
- Review all accruals in the system, ensuring proper costs have been booked against each trade / strategy or storage facility.
- Manage all relevant secondary invoices, and double check for correctness against our Rate Agreements.
- Receive, organize, and distribute Truck and Rail BOLs
- Prepare accurate, detailed customs documents. Ensure proper import / export filed for shipments where applicable, check appropriate duty is charged and process for payment.
- Ensure proper cargo insurance is being accrued for FOB purchases, DAP sales, and declarations are recorded for Insurance team.
- Have an understanding of demurrage and detention exposure and the capacity to book the correct accruals (expenses and rebills) at the time of the voyage.
- Work with the Renewables desk and Compliance when necessary to ensure the correct RVO Calculations are being computed and that the appropriate amount of RINS designated for retirement for any domestic transactions.
- Potential to learn all aspects of marine operations such as freight calculations, voyage deviation and interim port claims, cargo intake calculations, and ensuring vessels and barges will comply with the various draft / berthing restrictions at all ports of call.
- Relevant experience in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
- Ensure proper transport vetting for any Port, or State Controls via DOT, USCG is undertaken.
- Always keep Finance team up to date with respect to product movement timing, to ensure we are covered with respect to Credit.
- Maintain an accurate and up to date account of storage positions, at all times.
- Be willing and able to cross train on different operations desks, to provide back fill / vacation coverage where necessary for Operators (be available 24/7 when necessary)
- Be capable of handling a very manual trading platform and, where possible, streamline processes for the Team.
- Have a “Driven” attitude and be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Profile
- A bachelor’s degree required.
- Physical trade logistical experience preferred
- Experience of physical commodity and commodity derivatives
- At least 3+ years relevant working experience within the energy trading industry
- Team-player but also able to work independently.
- Good communication skills to be able to discuss with senior management, corporate lawyer, business counterparts and external advisors.
- Always demonstrates integrity.
- Punctual, precise, firsthand mentality and service-oriented
- Fluent in English, Spanish a plus
- Strong computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS office applications
