Position Summary:

Our Claims Litigation Specialist will investigate, evaluate and handle to conclusion all assigned litigated claims. The Litigation Specialist will have advanced claim handling skills and be able to effectively manage the litigation claim process. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ability to review loss facts, including legal pleadings and new suits to evaluate coverage and exposure. Including questions on coverage with a reservation of rights letter and/or non-waiver agreement.
  • Review each claim to ensure that all coverage and exposures issues have been identified and investigated.
  • Contacts insureds and claimants within established corporate guidelines to provide notification of assignment
  • Effectively manages litigation process, setting legal strategy with defense counsel and managing established legal budgets.
  • Properly identify and make timely assignments to counsel
  • Ability to effectively communicate with counsel to set legal strategy and evaluate/manage the legal budget process.
  • Successfully evaluate coverage or liability claims investigation.
  • Evaluate injury claims and determine the appropriate reserve and settlement value.
  • Attend depositions/mediation/arbitration/pre-trials/trials and all other legal proceedings as needed for the claims department.
  • Attend internal and external training programs to advance knowledge in the area of insurance claims.
  • Work closely with the manager, claims leadership and defense attorney, when applicable, to respond timely, accurately and professionally to plaintiff representative verbal and written correspondence.
  • Advises the underwriting Department of adverse findings regarding insureds and/or coverage.


Position Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Claims Adjuster.
  • 3-5 years’ experience handling litigated claims
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Must possess applicable state licensing.
  • A professional designation is preferred.
  • This is an in-office role in either Alabama, Florida or Texas.
