PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Prepare and assemble various marine components and products where methods, sequences and tooling are normally established.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Floor operated cranes, grinders, sanders, banders and saws; assembly jigs, fixtures and tooling, powered hand tools, expander, drill press, saws, pipe bender, power forklift, chainfalls, jacks. Hammers, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, drills, taps, reamers, torque wrenches, micrometers, feeler gages, calipers, squares, level, gages, tapes, safety glasses and gloves, marking and lapping stands,  etc.

MATERIAL:

Turbines, gears, oil sumps, heat transfer apparatus, turbine generators, special products, rotors, diaphragms, blade rings, valves, main assemblies, component parts, and subassemblies, piping, flanges, reservoirs, pedestals, oil, steam, chemicals, solvents, water, rags, tape, etc.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

Perform the duties of Assembly Helper and in addition perform the following:

  • Receives work assignment and instructions from supervision.
  • Read, understand, and follow safety regulations and procedures and MI package including drawings, change notices, operation sheets, specifications and work authorizations, process specifications, MEIS, bill of material, and inspection characteristics.
  • Disassemble diaphragms in base and clean and assemble various components, subassemblies, covers, panels, preformed and straight pipe, flanges, fittings, valves, gears, and levers where parts are normally self-aligning, and methods established. Clean and assemble bearing components and mark and remove mating surface interferences. Preserve parts by hand as needed.
  • Set up and operate drills to drill, tap and ream holes.
  • Position and assemble components to test stand configuration.
  • Check work for conformance to specification.
  • Sign off operation completed and maintain MI package in an organized manner.
  • Make proper time charge entries and record test data as required.
  • Maintain current online LX certifications and instructor-led training.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform Work of equal or lower skills level as required.

This is a Union represented position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment focusing on assembly, disassembly, maintenance, repair, and rework to include hydraulic, mechanical, and rotational elements
  • Experience with interpreting blueprints, sketches, manufacturing instructions and knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience using measuring instruments such as indicators, calipers, micrometers, bore micrometers, height gages, thread gauges and other hand tools with a full knowledge of their applications
  • US citizenship is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior work experience in Automotive, Naval or Aviation maintenance or manufacturing
  • Ability to operate cranes and forklifts.
