Minimum hourly rate of pay for this position will be $45.71 and increase with experience.


 

Job Summary

Performs a variety of MRI procedures and duties, under the direction of a qualified physician or technical specialist, using prescribed imaging protocol. Performs all activities according to Federal, State, local, and hospital policies and procedures to a variety of patients ranging in age from newborn. Operates imaging equipment to produce quality diagnostic images of specified body parts. Able to insert and remove IV's. Essential Functions: •Performs daily quality control of equipment. Reports any malfunction to appropriate supervisor. •Prepares rooms for procedures. •Works with MRI scheduling, inpatient units and physicians’ offices to coordinate and/or assist in scheduling of patient exams. •Transports patients and helps with lifting of patients as needed. •Chooses appropriate computer parameters to produce quality images of requested anatomy. •Performs imaging exams on inpatient and outpatient, adult, pediatric and geriatric populations. •Acquires images and reviews for quality with appropriate person. •Answers patient, physician, nurse and family members' questions and solves scheduling and other problems, as required. •Educates patient about procedure to be performed and keeps patient informed throughout procedure. •Provides in-service training as necessary. •Records patient exams in Meditech computer system. •Participates in continuing education programs as dictated by Joint commission, MA licensing board and hospital/department policy. •Adheres to "Code of Ethics" for radiologic technologists as defined by ARRT. •Cleans and stocks imaging rooms and other areas as assigned. •Participates in Quality Improvement activities. •Communicates verbal reports to appropriate personnel as necessary. •Prepares patient for procedures practicing infection control techniques and sterile techniques, as needed.•Attends to the physical, emotional and educational needs of the patient within the technologists scope of care. Provides bedpans, urinals, emesis basis, mobility assistance and other support as needed. •Draws up, measures and prepares contrast medium for administration, as directed. Administers contrast media in accordance with policies. •Disposes of sharps and syringes according to policy/procedure. •Obtains patients history by personal interview and chart review. •Provides emergency "on-call" coverage twenty-four hours per days, as assigned. •Performs venous punctures and starts IV lines in patients as necessary. •Performs clerical duties as necessary on computer, with film jackets, requisitions and labels. Utilizes proper telephone technique. •Verifies patient identification by arm bands and outpatient requisitions using 2 identifiers. •Verifies appropriateness of ordered exam by requisition, chart, attending physician and radiologist, when necessary. Assists radiologists and physicians during radiographic procedures.


 

Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

•Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Advanced MRI) preferred or obtaining the Advanced MRI registration within one year time of the date of hire.

•CPR Certified (BLS)

Physical Environment: Duties may involve general cleaning with exposure to dirt, odors, cramped quarters, etc.; or include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste, or other unpleasant elements; or much of work may be performed outdoors with exposure to weather extremes.
