Pinterest is seeking a skilled Manager for our team of  Cloud Architecture experts who make a significant impact on one of the largest-scale, cloud-based infrastructures in the world. As a member of the Cloud Foundation organization, you lead in the areas of cloud architecture, infrastructure efficiency, and availability across the company. 

 

This role is front-and-center leading cloud systems engineering at massive scale. You will forge cutting-edge innovations in partnership with leaders in cloud foundations and infrastructure to create world-class performance and stability for 500M+ Pinterest users. You are a thought leader, building new and better standards and systems for 1500+ Pinterest software engineers.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a team of highly-skilled Cloud Systems engineers to deliver team and Pillar OKRs.
  • Form strong partnerships with Technical Leaders to scale the impact of your team.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering and product teams to align on shared goals and shared responsibility for delivering robust, scalable systems.
  • Evangelize team charter and mission around building a scalable, fault-tolerant and efficient cloud-based system across Pinterest.
  • Create a healthy team culture of clear expectations, career development, succession strategy and skills redundancy throughout the team.
  • Build the team by hiring great talent and developing the leadership abilities of employees in the organization.
  • Identify areas of improvement within services, automation, and secure proper resources to implement them.
  • Use processes and metrics to manage operational and technical quality of the team.
  • Act as part of the IMOC (Incident Management On Call) rotation for Pinterest Tech Foundations.
  • Work with cross-functional partners and vendors to set team direction by translating strategy into tangible actions.
  • Find and pursue opportunities across Pinterest for higher efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Present topics around Pinterest cloud systems at conferences and industry events.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years experience leading teams that focus on large-scale cloud architecture implementations using AWS services (EC2, EBS, R53 etc.) and IaC (Terraform, CFN etc.).
  • Experience working with Cloud service providers, preferably Amazon Web Services.
  • Excellent skills in communicating complex issues to an audience outside the infra domain, and championing strategies to key stakeholders.
  • Bonus Points for:
    • Strong networking/routing background including global routing and load balancing experience
    • Experience with globally distributed data storage engines
    • Experience with infrastructure performance monitoring tools and optimization practices
    • Experience with modernizing legacy architectures and driving golden paths/best practices.

This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times/quarter and therefore can be situated anywhere in Ontario.
