Join us as Senior Manager & Certification Regimes Lead

  • Play a key role by leading the bank's framework for regulatory approval and certification of individuals under the Senior Manager & Certification Regimes (SMCR) and on the application of the Conduct Rules
  • Help safeguard the bank and its Senior Manager Function holders by advising on the allocation of individual accountabilities, delegations and effective decision-making
  • Make a lasting impact by ensuring SMCR processes and systems are aligned to external changes in the regulatory environment and building and developing a high-performing team

What you'll do

As Senior Manager & Certification Regimes Lead, you’ll support senior management in managing the regulatory approval and certification of individuals under SMCR and the application of the Conduct Rules. You’ll provide professional subject matter expertise and support on SMCR matters to the business, directors and ExCo members, and take the lead on the optimisation of bank-wide SMCR and Conduct Rules frameworks, processes and systems.

We’ll also look to you to provide competent professional advice to the business on the allocation of accountabilities including considerations arising from structural change. Alongside this, you’ll give advice, challenge, and support to Senior Manager Function holders on the effective delegation and evidencing of individual accountabilities under SMCR, and on proportionate governance frameworks that support effective individual decision-making.

In addition, you’ll be:

  • Managing relationships with stakeholders and liaising with industry bodies and UK regulators on individual accountability requirements
  • Producing high-quality papers, training sessions, guidance, and other internal briefings
  • Contributing to the Corporate Governance function's strategy to ensure an efficient delivery model for activities and services including effectively harnessing AI tools where appropriate
  • Providing subject matter expertise to clarify individual accountabilities and decision-making authority
  • Advising the bank CEO and Chief People Officer on regulatory changes impacting SMCR frameworks
  • Identifying and leading the development of process improvements to enhance communication, coordination, and drive the simplification agenda

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience in an SMCR lead role, with strong knowledge of the governance and regulatory environment relating to large, complex, listed financial services organisations. You’ll also need to bring an excellent understanding of risk management principles and risk culture, along with extensive experience engaging senior stakeholders and influencing at Board and ExCo level.

In addition, you’ll have to demonstrate a proven capability to manage operational and regulatory priorities effectively and to deliver under pressure, while consistently exercising decisiveness and sound judgement.

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • A thorough understanding of complex financial services organisations, structure, functions, and interdependencies
  • Experience operating within the banking, regulatory, and commercial environment
  • Experience leading, managing and developing a high-performing, professional team
  • To be an effective team player with proven high-quality interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with effective presentation and organisational capability
