Position Summary
Staff Nurse within department provides the main clinical support to students and shares in the administrative and reception functions for all clients seen within department.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and clinical support including taking and recording of vitals, obtaining weights, arranging EKGs or other tests.
- Develop, input and manage the master schedule.
- Provide emotional support to clients.
- Speak with parents, faculty and staff as needed.
- Provide both phone and in-office reception responsibilities.
- Respond to requests for refills of medication.
- Coordinate referrals and administer Patient Assistant Programs as needed.
- Assist with triage for walk-in clients or other students experiencing emotional difficulty.
- Fulfill administrative responsibilities within the department including participation in staff meetings, accurate and timely record keeping, involvement in agency committees and planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Two years of Registered Nursing work in a hospital, office or school nursing environment.
- Professional nursing principles, procedures and techniques which may include care and treatment of psychiatry clients.
- Medical and psychological terminology.
- Knowledge of medications which may include psychotropic drugs and effects on psychiatric patients.
- Certain positions may require knowledge of regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Certain positions may require knowledge of symptoms and behavior patterns of emotionally disturbed mentally ill patients and medical and psychiatric emergency procedures.
- Ability to apply professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of departmental clients.
- Ability to develop interpersonal therapeutic relationships with departmental clients.
- Ability to comply with state laws, rules, regulations, protocols and procedures.
- Professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with clients in crisis with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Missouri RN licensure in accordance with Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range
$56,200.00 - $96,100.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
