36Position Summary:
The Audiology Assistant supports the daily operations of the Audiology Department by providing clinical, technical and administrative services under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist or licensed hearing aid instrument dispenser.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This role assists with patient care, hearing aid maintenance, and workflow coordination to ensure high-quality audiologic services and excellent patient experience.
Clinical Support: Performed under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist or licensed hearing instrument dispenser:
Conducts routine checks of hearing aids and other amplification devices and equipment.
Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to hearing aids, earmolds, and other amplification devices which do not alter the shape, sound characteristics, or performance of the device.
Cleaning of hearing aids and other amplification equipment
Perform electroacoustic analysis of hearing aids and amplification devices
Educate patients on the proper use and care of hearing aids and amplification devices
Assist with the preparation of hearing aids and earmolds for fittings
Contacting hearing instrument manufacturers and suppliers regarding the status of orders and repairs.
Complete hearing aid orientation with patients once fully trained
Administrative Support:
Maintain and file audiologic evaluations, hearing aid documentation and patient records.
Assist with scheduling patient appointments, including not limited to, hearing aid pickups and referrals into the Audiology Department.
Assist audiology staff with hearing aid trail agreements and documentation
Verify patient insurance coverage for hearing aids and related services
Prepare hearing aid cost estimates and review them with the patient as appropriate
Assist with precertification and basic patient billing
Answer patient phone calls, triage concerns and route messages to appropriate clinical staff
Prepare exam rooms before and after patient appointments, ensuring cleanliness and readiness
Stock rooms and department areas with supplies and maintain inventory as needed
Assist with receiving and shipping supplies or hearing aid repairs
Perform other duties as assigned
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW AND REQUIREMENTS
• H.S. Diploma required.
• Basic computer knowledge required.
• Ability to connect with patients and maintain good rapport with patients.
• Knowledge of basic coding for no charge appointments preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served in the physician office. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group.
