Job Overview

The Welding Technician – Assembly Maintenance provides hands-on technical welding and maintenance support to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality welding operations while minimizing equipment downtime and supporting continuous improvement in assembly production.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support safety, quality, and productivity by following all plant safety rules, LOTO procedures, and Magna/Kamtek standards.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot resistance and MIG welding equipment, including weld tips, tooling, fixtures, and weld schedules.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on welding equipment to ensure proper operation and minimize downtime.
  • Program and adjust welding and stepper programs; document changes per Kamtek standards.
  • Conduct weld failure investigations, troubleshoot weld quality issues, and coordinate follow-up with UT/Destruct teams.
  • Review weld tip condition, ensure proper tip dress and cap face size, and maintain adequate welding supplies on production lines.
  • Provide technical support during new model launches and equipment modifications.
  • Perform basic robotic operation and troubleshooting, as well as basic electrical circuit diagnostics.
  • Enter accurate maintenance records, line calls, and PM activities into the Maintenance CMS.
  • Order replacement parts as needed, manage tool crib returns, and complete repair documentation.

Education & Qualification

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 4 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with resistance welding and MIG welding setups.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting aptitude.
