What’s the role?

Etsy's Shipping Carriers team is looking for a Software Engineer who can collaborate to build an engaging and effective experience for Etsy's sellers. You’ll be joining a mission critical team responsible for building products that allow our sellers to ship their products with ease as well as supporting the technical systems that power all aspects of shipping on Etsy, from calculating shipping prices to providing tracking updates for our community of millions of buyers and sellers across the globe.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. 

For this role, we are considering candidates based in Mexico, however candidates living

within commutable distance of the Etsy Mexico office will be the first to be considered. Even if located within commuting distance of an office, you will have the option to work office-based, flex, or remotely.

We primarily write in PHP, React/Preact, and MySQL but work closely with company level infrastructure teams to ensure standardization, efficiency, and redundancy in our system

What does the day-to-day look like?

• You'll be helping us build meaningful products and experiences for people selling with Etsy. 

• You will be contributing at all levels of our web application stack, ranging from front-end web interfaces (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Preact, Redux) to back-end technologies (PHP, MySQL, GCS, Memcache) too.

• You will collaborate directly with other engineers (both senior and junior), product managers, and designers to create and maintain both user-facing features as well as low-level background systems and processes.

• You will help onboard and mentor new and less senior engineers.

• You will present technical challenges and solutions to non-technical stakeholders and management.

• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You have a particular interest in developing products on the front-end, but have full stack exposure including PHP and MySQL.

• You have experience with multiple front-end frameworks; we primarily use React/Preact, but alternate experience is great.

• You can define and solve unconstrained problems, and know when to seek help with any roadblocks.

• You're comfortable collaborating closely with product managers and designers, providing estimates or product ideas that will influence your team’s roadmap.

• You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code written by others. You love to experiment and use data to drive decision-making.

• You are a mindful, transparent, and communicative member of your team.
